We are Windstar Cruise lovers so like a small ship. We wanted to take some first time cruiser friends with us and thought a river cruise would be the ticket. We were generally very disappointed with Viking. Some of the crew were great (activity director, piano player) but most of the dining room help were Eastern Europeans with an attitude. Front desk help, ditto. Everyone seemed overworked. When we asked a waiter to help us with something he said “do I look like your waiter?”. Food was just ok, dining room was very crowded and you had no choice with whom you dined as there were only large and crowded tables. It was a crush to dinner as everyone ate at the same time or you might not get 4 seats together. It was a dining hall not a restaurant.

Tours - since they are “included” the groups were much too large. For instance, we went to Giverney in the afternoon, which was ridiculous as it was so crowded we had to wait in a huge line to get in. We gave up and did not get to see the house. We should have been there in the am. Some of the guides were good, some were just ok, none were great. They do not publish in and out times from ports so it is impossible to book your own tours. We felt herded for seven days.

We went to Normandy, which we expected to be a highlight of our trip. Not. The tour guide was a C- and we had a Very young Frenchman lecture us at the cemetery about how the Americans helped the French as payback for their help during the Revolutionary War. They must be teaching revisionist history in France too!

Cabin Review

Veranda Suite

Clean. Hard bed. Standard sized room with balcony is very small. Please note that square footage in the literature includes the balcony, which is really too small to use so the space would be better utilized in the room and make it a French balcony. There is almost no space for two people to change clothes at the same time.
