This was the maiden voyage for the Origin. I would recommend this type of cruise "expedition" to snorkelers who are comfortable in deep water with strong currents and for those who are agile enough to climb a moderate to difficult lava terrain.

When we embarked, there was not immediate food service and we were told to wait for our keys. This was not like other cruises. The dining room staff lacked communication with each other for every meal, occasionally receiving your lunch or dinner after a long period of time and other times was a lot quicker. This was never consistent throughout the 7 days. Breakfast was very confusing and never clear if one should order at buffet line or from the waiter. You always had to ask for menus at each meal except dinner. Food for breakfast and lunch was fair to good and dinner slightly better. Perhaps they will develop their "flow" after a few more cruises but this one definitely needed more rehearsal time.

Expedition staff was excellent. I wish they had more hikes less strenuous. If one had an orthopedic issue, then climbing over strap and irregular lava rocks could be a problem. Walking sticks were provided and were useful. The afternoon lectures were informative discussing wildlife, plants, and how Darwin developed his theories.

Cabin Review

Each cabin had a balcony which allowed for viewing of the Islands. Rooms were small but well-appointed. It did not matter as one does not have time to stay in your cabin.
