My husband and I are avid cruisers and have been on over 45 ( we've lost count) ocean cruises since our honeymoon 40 years ago. This cruise was our first since the pandemic began and we were eager to set foot on a cruiseship deck again. The Bermuda Escape cruise on Viking Orion was our 2nd Viking ocean cruise. The crew and ship were lovely, the food exquisite, and Bermuda as charming as ever. There were quite a few differences though from the wild and free cruising days of 16 months ago.

Even though we are both fully vaccinated, the Bermuda travel advisory mandated a negative precruise covid test no more than 4 days before the trip, proof of vaccination, a complicated Bermuda travel authorisation, and another negative test once we set foot on Bermudian soil. The ship was half full by design but a number of people didn't make it to the ship. Whether their paperwork wasn't done in a timely manner or some other issue, I don't know for certain. At one point, I wondered myself if it was worth it.

Every day on the cruise we needed to send a saliva sample to the ship's lab for testing and the passengers were required to wear a mask in common areas of the ship when others were around

Cabin Review

Our cabin was very nice. Basic size for all of the veranda classes. I wouldn't recommend being on the 3rd deck forward since we heard the drums from the rehearsals and shows quite clearly.
