My husband and I Iove to cruise, couldn't wait to get back on a ship after the long drought due to COVID. We have been on 32 cruises. We cruise on Carnival, RCL, NCL, Princess, and Celebrity. We like them all. We took the Horizon out of Miami 7/18/21. Embarkation was fast and easy. There was a long line and everyone was wearing masks, no problem. It took 15 min. As soon as you get on the ship the mask come off. We went to the buffet for lunch. The food selection was small. The meats were dry and overcooked. The salad bar saved the day. The cabins were ready at 1:30 pm. We had a balcony and it seemed a little bigger than most. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The decor of the ship was an underwhelming brown. There are no fancy dining rooms, no chandeliers. no nice artwork, just a lot of BROWN.

We went to the main dining room for dinner. Once again the food was not good. I had the sweet and sour shrimp. The shrimp were the frozen tasteless variety. My husband also ordered the shrimp but sent his back and ordered the brisket. The brisket was dry and overcooked so he didn't eat that either. I ate 2 of my shrimp. We left the dining room to go to the buffet and had the salad bar again. Later we got a slice of pizza at the Pizza place at the aft of the ship. The pizza is pretty good. We repeated this throughout the cruise. Dining room bad food , buffet salad bar and pizza. We kept trying to find good food!!! On the last day of the cruise they did a repeat of the frozen tasteless shrimp. REALLY?!!!

The entertainment was not good. The magician was terrible or maybe he thought he was entertaining children. Terrible! The singer and dancers could neither sing or dance well, offkey, not in step with each other. The comedians were very funny. Their shows stayed packed so go early to get a seat. The main show room was designed very poorly. The incline was minimal so no one could see well.

Cabin Review

The cabin was nice, shower was good, everything looked clean and fresh. Good storage.

Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

We went to Amber Cove and walked around the shopping area. Everything was new but it was a very small area. It took about 10 minutes to see everything. I bought a pair of flip flops. The man in the store was so polite and helpful. He cut off all the packaging and assisted me putting the shoes on me feet. WE would never find service like this in the USA. MY husband saw how helpful the man was so he tipped him. In our 51 years together he has never done that. He was so impressed with the good service.

Half Moon Cay

We loved Half Moon Cay. You take a tender from the ship to the island, then a short walk to the beautiful white sandy beach. The water was warm and clear. There are plenty of free beach chairs. They have several spots where you can eat for free.

Bimini

Did did not get off the ship at this port. The excursions Carnival had were very limited and did not see anything of our interest.
