We have traveled with Viking on 10 cruises and were looking forward to a fun voyage around Iceland. We had the required COVID vaccinations and the COVID nasal swab (within 72 hours of flying). Upon boarding the Jupiter, all passengers are given a COVID tracking button and one is required to carry this tracker at all times outside the stateroom. The button allows Viking personnel to monitor your movements and can detect if one has been in proximity to a possible COVID carrier. In our case, Viking personnel assigned us to a coach in which a "suspect" passenger with COVID was present. As a result, halfway through the voyage, we and 70 others (of 706 passengers) were confined to our staterooms for the remainder of the trip. Room Service provided meals and beverages. Each passenger is required to take a daily COVID test from Day 1 until the voyage is completed. Although we tested negative each day, we were required to remain in quarantine. Not the best way to spend a vacation! No one was advised of the use of the tracker or the possibility of quarantine before booking. In our case, we would not have scheduled this trip if we had known so. When I inquired as to how many passengers tested positive, Viking personnel are "closed-lipped". After the voyage, we sought a 50% refund or a 50% credit for a future Viking cruise since we were quarantined for half the voyage. Customer Relations personnel would not honor our request for any amount.
Unless you wish to risk being quarantined for a trip that you pay several thousand dollars for, I recommend that you not sail with Viking. I know for a fact that we will not. Iceland is beautiful, but not from a veranda window.
