Hi everyone. We sailed with Silversea in 2017 and were disappointed. This year, we had booked a cruise on another comparable cruise line, but that trip was cancelled due to COVID. Our travel agent suggested going to the Greek islands, since Greece has made a real effort to be open to tourists this summer. He said that Silversea had a brand new ship; The Silver Moon. We said let’s give it a try and are glad we did!
First off, let me recommend using a travel agent. Maybe you’re all smarter than me, and already do so. For the past few years, since the advent of the internet, I had mistakenly thought that travel agents had ceased operating. Many have, but many still do. They know the nuances of the industry in a way we can’t.
Back to Silversea. We were disappointed in their food back in 2017. For the money they charged, and for claiming to be a high end cruise line, the food was a disappointment. Secondly, the internet was so slow it was barely usable. Let me discuss the internet first. I know you may be thinking it’s tacky to splurge on a cruise and waste time online, but the internet is becoming more and more a part of our lives. From conducting business while away, to checking emails, and possibly your internet enabled home security system, I think you’ll agree internet is required, even while on vacation. I spent a little extra on Silversea’s premium internet, and it is super fast. Hi def videos played perfectly, and the ‘progress bar’ was further ahead than at my home, where I have 1 gig service. Yes, there is a lag, due to the satellite, but it’s negligible. I can’t address the regular internet, since I got the higher speed one from the beginning of the cruise. So, outstanding connectivity.
