Chose this cruise due to Covid situation to avoid possible isolation on return home. Told by MSC to arrive for 11am and it took an hour and a half to get on board - appreciate that we had to have Covid tests, but the delay was partly due to the regular passengers being left outside while the Yacht Club passengers boarded. Not a great start. Virtuosa is a very beautiful ship with sparkly staircases and robot bar tenders but it seems to suffer from fundamental design flaws. The ship holds up to about 6000 passengers but the facilities on board are simply no where near sufficient to cope with that many passengers. The Virtuosa lounge, one of the main venues for live entertainment and it only has around 50 seats, so we saw people sitting on the floor and we experienced a full on argument between a young man reserving two seats for his parents and an elderly man who wanted to sit down. The staff were overworked and seemed stressed, some were downright rude. We heard that a large number of staff might have been isolating following a Covid outbreak the week before. Dont know if that is true, but it would account for the shortage of waiters. There were some amazing staff on board - Claire who worked in the Atmosphere bar and the Virtuosa lounge was very friendly and attentive to the passengers. The service in the Minuetto restaurant in the evenings was excellent, but the service at lunchtime in The Blue Danube was very slow - we found we needed 90 minutes for lunch. On the whole the food was of a high standard, but the availability of drinks seemed limited - the advertised beers were simply not available, so if you dont like draught Heineken you may be disappointed. Although there were many announcements regarding social distancing we did find that during breakfast and lunch in the Blue Danube restaurant the diners were sat shoulder to shoulder to eat. Entertainment was OK. The Carousel productions were excellent but incurred an extra charge - we went to both and enjoyed them very much. Internet access was not available for several days which did not affect us but caused some passengers serious consternation. We sat next to a travel agent at dinner and he said he would never sell an MSC cruise again because of the general poor service and lack of facilities. We would not travel with MSC again.

Cabin Review

Brand new so very clean and tidy. Comfortable bed. Has a kettle but the daily rations give you one coffee and one decaf coffee per day so you may prefer to take your own or track down your steward if you can find them.
