Additional details

Sail Date: Jan 1970

My wife and I had the pleasure of sailing on this magnificent new ship from 3/3 to 3/10. We stayed in a category 'C" suite on deck nine. The islands we visited included Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. A brief description of our excursions is included below.

I will try to keep my comments brief. Unlike some of the other reviews for this ship, I am not going into enormous detail about every inch of the ship. I will limit my comments to what I liked, what I disliked and discrepancies between my experience and what was written in other people/s reviews. I will also briefly mention my excursions. For more info, feel free to contact me at my e-mail address, which is listed below.

I could spend the next week writing about all the things I liked about the cruise. Suffice it to say that almost all my expectations were met or surpassed. Everything on the ship still has that "new" feeling. The food was superb, the accommodations beautiful (category C) and the entertainment (every night) first rate. The spa treatments were expensive but relaxing (I highly recommend the massage with the hot rocks). A few things I especially enjoyed that others did not comment on are worth mentioning. The solarium pool is a great place to relax. It is much quieter than the main pools. Unlike other people's experience, on our cruise the "no children" rule was enforced. The seats by this pool are incredibly comfortable. By the end of the cruise we were gravitating to this pool daily. The shade is also nice after you get sunburned (as we did). Second, this was our first cruise with interactive television. The schedule for every day on the cruise is accessible from the TV, making it easy to get information on anything. Reservations for Portofinos or for the spa can be made this way also. Finally, the card room (part of the Viking Crown Lounge) is another great place to relax that a lot of people don't know about. It is a great place to pass the time while awaiting to disembark on the last day (see comments below).
