August 12 - 24, 2011

Our vacation along with our aunt/uncle started in Barcelona, 2 days prior to the boarding the ship. We enjoyed the on/off tour bus that took us throughout Barcelona and up into the Olympic Village. We walked daily thru La Rambla and deliberately got lost thru the narrow streets so we could enjoy all the scenery (churches, bars, restaurants etc) and we had one too many Bocadillo sandwiches - enjoying the Serrano Iberia Prosciutto.

The Solstice cruise was wonderful. We had a port side room which gave us a great view of each port we were entering. Staff was very helpful and always smiling. They were respectful and always willing to help.

Our only issue was the many unruly young adults in/around the pool area. They were uncontrollable and hoarded the pool area with their jumping and diving into the pool.

Celebrity needs to be more vigilant in controlling the young adult guests or contacting their parents!

The restaurants on the ship...one was better than the other.

Murano provided elegant dining with a superb menu from lamb chops to lobster tails and filet mignon. Well worth the extra few dollars.

Tuscan a little more relax atmosphere and food was also exceptional. Well worth the extra dollars!

Silk Harvest was an after- thought but SHOULD NOT be missed. Food was served family style and it came in abundance! Also worth the extra dollars!

Touring: Villefranche - we booked our own tour guide and Alain from Dream Tours gave us a 5 hour tour of Eze, Monte Carlo/Monaco and the surrounding areas

Italy: we opted for a private driver and after searching the internet we decided on Private Tour in Italy and we had 2 great tour guides named Domenico Iaccarino and Elisabetta.

Elisabetta took us from the port in Liviorno and had us experience the Tuscan region. We visited Pisa, Firenze, Chianti region and a little town way up in the mountain called San Gimignano and we had a wonderful day. Truly and enjoyable experience.

Domenico picked up us in Naples and the day started off with a smile. As children of immigrant Italian parents, we hit it off as we understood the language and the culture. But Domenico showed us a part of Italy that we've never seen or experienced in the past. He took us to Sorrento but not before stopping to buy figs at the side of the road! We had a coffee and moved on to Positiano. There we experience a truly typical Italian family luncheon (La Tagilia) with a breathtaking view of the Amalfi coast. From there we went to Ravello - beautiful little town in the mountains and then off to Amalfi...what an exciting day. Words cannot describe our enjoyment and experiences!

Another special day was Roma, Italy and we had the pleasure of Domenico's company again. He booked our tickets into the Coliseum and arranged for a private tour guide in the Sistine Chapel as well as the Basilica. We had another lunch at a typical Rome eatery.

Venice - was an overnight but not close enough to the main area to go back and forth.

Kotor, Montenegro - what a gem! We took a taxi and traveled around the scenic areas

Dubrovnik, Crotia - another gem! Well worth the walk and hustle and bustle of the hot August days

Overall, I would highly recommend the cruise itinerary as well as the private tour guides that we selected. Each stop was special and provided us with many happy memories.
