In my research I read how Alesund was a walkable place and lots to do to spend your day.
We did not book an excursion here but at the port we hopped on the little tour train and went for a drive for an hour. This took us to Mt Aksla and around town and back to the port. (This was 150 NOK)

We docked about half a mile from the town centre.
We docked on the side looking over the harbour and not the side you get off the ship on for the town centre. However I couldn’t get my phone to download emails etc in my cabin even though it showed good 4G signal and had to walk over to the other side of the ship so worth bearing in mind if you have a choice of cabins.
