Depressing and dirty. We walked down the main tourist road and were pestered constantly by begging children and people trying to sell us drugs (legal and not). We ate in a local restaurant and were extremely disappointed by the slow service and crappy food. On the way back to the ship after dark the entire waterfront seemed very seedy. Ported very close to town. We did the Princess excursion winery tour. It was really worth it, and very nice. The tour guide was exceptional. We drove on a very new air conditioned bus. The first winery was state of the art and the valley where the winery is, is just gorgeous. The second winery was smaller, but very friendly. We felt very safe and enjoyed this tour. Our plan was to stay near the ship and look around at a few shops. They have a shuttle right by the ship that is $3 round trip to town. So we decided to take the shuttle. While on the shuttle they advertised a tour that went to the Blow Hole and market for $15. We decided to take this independent tour with several other passengers from the ship. The free bus ride from the ship drops you off at the intense, northern end of Lopez Mateos, the main tourist drag in town, near Hussong's and other bars. The shopkeepers there work the sidewalk hard to hustle customers into their stores.
