Don't Miss in Isla Culebra

Beaches: Beach enthusiasts consider Culebra's sandy stretches to be some of the most exquisite in the world, so carve out time to enjoy at least one of them. Horseshoe-shaped Flamenco Beach is the busiest on the island. It's got just about everything you'd want: spectacular soft white sand and shallow turquoise water that's perfect for bathing. The snorkeling can be good here as well. There are public bathrooms and chair/umbrella rentals. Locals sell food and drinks from kiosks.

Snorkeling: If you're looking to head underwater, you can walk to Melones Beach from Dewey. (Look for the unmarked road behind the church.) The beach is rocky and you've got to watch out for sea urchins, but you'll have the opportunity to see turtles and all manner of fish that enjoy the coral reef right offshore.

Views: Zoni Beach, a long, narrow strip of sand, lures those in search of spectacular views across to Culebrita, St. Thomas and St. Croix. If you time your visit right, you may even see the leatherback turtles that nest there. (Moms lay their eggs in May, and the babies hatch in July.)
