The Dock at East Shores is right next door to the Gladstone Marina. With views over the water and plenty of casual seating, this is an excellent location for an informal meal. Gladstone has an amazing local fish market where the daily selection of seafood includes scallops, crabs, prawns and reef fish. Fresh and cooked seafood is available from the Gladstone Fish Market Hot Box. The Reef Hotel Bistro serves modern Australian cuisine in a pub atmosphere.

Best for Active Travellers: Tannum Sands is a pretty, sandy beach 20 kilometres south of Gladstone, which offers water sports including paddle boarding.

Best for Families: Gladstone's East Shores Precinct is the new place to play. This water park has a waterfront boardwalk, barbecues and plenty of open play space.

Don't Miss in Gladstone

Herron Island: A two-hour cruise will put you on the Southern Great Barrier Reef where you can see reef sharks, manta rays and stingrays just off the jetty. It is a great place to snorkel. You may see turtle hatchlings between January and March.

Lady Musgrave: Take a boat trip and spend the day exploring the waters, swimming with turtles and viewing amazing coral formations around this Southern Great Barrier Reef Island.

Auckland Point Lookout: Just 111 steps and you'll be at the top of this lookout, which has a beautiful view over Gladstone Harbour (Auckland Street, South Gladstone).

Tondoon Botanic Gardens: This 83-hectare site is home to plant species from the Port Curtis Region and Tropical North Queensland. There are many walking trails throughout the gardens and a lake in the centre (700 Glenlyon Road).
