Food and Drink in Esperance

Esperance has a range of eateries, cafes and restaurants. Fish Face is the place to go for the freshest local catch straight off the boat daily while microbrewery Lucky Bay Brewing brews craft beers using locally sourced ingredients.

Beaches in Esperance

Best for Half-Day Visit: You'll find turquoise sea flanked by white sand at Twilight Beach which is about seven kilometres out of Esperance. This is the safest beach for surfing and swimming and is patrolled by lifesavers in summer.

Best for Active Types: West Beach is an exposed beach break, which is good for surfing and works best in offshore winds from the north. Conditions change quickly here, so watch out for strong rips and currents.

Best for Families: Child-friendly beaches with little or no swell can be found at Bandy Creek Boat Harbour and on the Foreshore from Taylor Street jetty to Castletown Quays.

Don't Miss in Esperance

Esperance Esplanade: Running the length of the town, this is a great spot to enjoy a feed of fish and chips overlooking the water.

Esperance Museum Village: The Esperance Museum Village comprises a collection of historic buildings including a cafe, art gallery and visitor centre. The museum includes debris from Skylab, a 1979 NASA space station. The town of Esperance famously fined NASA \$400 for littering ,which after many years was finally paid in full. No EFTPOS is available. (Cnr James and Dempsterstreets; 08 90831580; open daily 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm)

The Museum Village Market: Located in Museum Park, the market is held around the pioneer houses (Cnr James and Dempster Street; 0415 388 420; open every second Sunday; 8.30 am to 12.30 pm.)

Cape Le Grand National Park: Best tip for visiting here is don't forget your sunglasses. The long stretches of sand are bright white, which shimmers in the sunlight. Lucky Bay is where tame and friendly kangaroos live on the beach.

Pink Lake: This lake is sometimes pink, sometimes not, but is also a picturesque nature reserve. The colour comes from salt-tolerant algae in the water.

Esperance Stonehenge: There's a small version of Stonehenge erected by locals in a field outside the town.
