Popular Things to Do in Savona
Don't Miss in Savona
As it's largely industrial, Savona attracts fewer tourists than most Italian cruise ports. Yet, adventuresome cruisers will find much to see, especially in the historic center. Begin at the Torre di Leon Pancaldo, a small tower near the cruise terminal and the last remnant of the 14th-century walls. You could spend several hours exploring the Fortezza del Priamar, roughly translated as the fortress of stone above the sea. Once a prison, the restored Priamar Fort houses two of the region's important museums. The Pinacoteca Civica museum is dedicated to Ligurian artists from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The Archaeological Museum of Savona focuses on finds from the original city settlement. Stroll down Via Pia, a lovely medieval street packed with shops and cafes. If you want to venture into the countryside, try a tasting tour in the mountainous Piedmont region, where you can sample Barolo wines and products made from truffles.
