Timing and price both worked for me. I travel solo, so NCL is my go to cruise line because they have some great options for the single traveller. I usually book a studio cabin, but this trip, because of the multiple "at sea" days, I chose a stateroom with a balcony. This was soon upgraded to a mini-suite, unsolicited by me. Beautiful big cabin with a full size shower(sliding glass doors and six mini-nozzles.) Embarkation and disembarkation both took no time at all; just walked on/off. The food and beverage situation was typical NCL; fair to average. I dined at 4 "specialty" restaurants. Q, Los Lobos, and Cagney's were average, at best. Le Bistro, however, hit it out of the park. Food, wine, service, all excellent. After trying each of the 3 main dining rooms, I resorted to the buffet for the rest of my meals. Pretty decent, by the way. The ship is absolutely beautiful, albeit almost new. Highlights include a go-cart track, laser tag, and waterslides that extend out over the sides of the ship. The overhang sections are clear plastic; pretty cool. Nightly shows, alway something to do. A popular venue is a replica of the pub the Beatles used to play when they started out, complete with a very good cover band. Lastly, a word about the Observation Lounge. Designed specifically for Alaskan waters, it covers the front 1/3 of the ship on deck 15. All floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable roomy seating for hundreds of people, serving continental breakfast, lunch, and "tea". Read Less

I did explore the cities before the cruise, embarkation and disembarkation went very well. I went to the cruise before so was familiar with the other things but the levels are upper than before, ship everything is so clean, the staff members do have respect to the guests, the cabin I was not expecting it, for me the cabin was the lowlight it was a 4 sleeper the cabin was too small for 4 people there was no space in the cabin, the top beds were so uncomfortable. Dining everything was ace, entertainment and activities oh that one was on top, service was excellent. Excursions the trip was going to Pomene and Portuguese Island but we ended up not going to Pomene nobody inform us about the changes we only went to Portuguese Island so for me that one was a lowlight maybe if they did inform that would be better because I went to this trip because of Pomene because I never went to Pomene before if I knew that we will only do Portuguese Island I wouldn’t go on this trip. I was traveling with my friends and I think that was last my trip but not sure. Read Less

Just returned from a 11 day Northern Lights voyage along the Norwegian coast to Kirkenes and back to Bergen - and it was mind blowing. I've returned relaxed, pampered and looking to book another cruise - with Hurtigurten. Never will I grace Royal Caribbean, or Princess again No casinos, no spas, no entertainment crews - it was education, relaxing and no hard sell. Cabins were basic, clean and well thought out, Bathrooms small and efficient. Staff were incredibly professional and charming Its a working ship, and the dress code was refreshingly casual..no dressing up for dinner. We loved every minute of it and the food was amazing. Fresh, locally sourced, not a french fry, burger, hot dog, pizza or hot dog in site. Excursions were expensive, but worth every penny - and no more expensive than the private ones which you can arrange independently Yes, alcohol is expensive, but this is Norway, and the prices on the ship were cheaper than the mid range hotels in Bergen. Embarkment and disembarkation were incredibly fast - we were in our hotel in less than an hour of leaving our deck - straight into a taxi. Tips - bring a kettle if you don't buy the premium package - learn how to use your camera for photographing the northern lights ( we had 6 nights of this spectacular) - bring a pair of slippers, good books, knitting/craft/watercolours - something to do when you are sailing along do at least 3 expeditions ( we did dog sledging, the ice hotel and the marble mines. All were incredible) Ignore the moaning minnie reviews. There are hundreds of thousand of people who have done this voyage. final words, don't hesitate book it! Read Less

The service was good. The room was kept clean and orderly on our schedule. The food staff and the bust boys were always courteous. The busy bartenders had kept their smiles up the entire duration. "Neli" rocks. The entire range of drinks they had made were terrific. Get the drinking package, it is a great investment. Made every port on-time, except one slight delay. With cooperating weather, we were able to do all of our excursion pre-purchased on the NCL website. The excursion staff on shore were friendly, knowledgeable, entertaining, and accommodating. The food at Ocean Blue was amazing and still quite memorable. The Teppanyaki had us laughing the entire duration with good food to follow. "Burn the Floor," has some amazing dancers, period. After a great day on shore with an excursion, the adequate time alloted for shopping, and then a great dinner at the various restaurants on the Getaway, we were able to dance and drink the night away with themed music at "H2O" every night, followed by more clubbing at "Bliss." To us, that felt like such a great bonus, a gift from the ship we had not anticipated. Compared to the previous cruise we were just on a month prior with Holland America Line, it was night and day. Wish I had a chance to review the Veendam on here with you. Overall, Norwegian Cruise Line Getaway has a much happier staff. We had felt that ship vibe from the get-go. A happier staff equals a happier trip for all of the customers on board (and returning customers). It is also a great reflection of a successful business. In the end, we had met great people who are now friends. Great photos were taken. Great memories were created. I'll forever miss the "washi-washi" hand-sanitizing girls on deck. Thanks to them we didn't get sick this time. Thank you NCL! Read Less

We just got off a 10 day cruise on the Epic. Just thought I'd share a few things with the group..... We booked this cruise because of the ship (we had been on the Epic previously and love her!) and the length of the cruise......we had been to all the ports a couple times so we figured we'd get off if we felt like it, or not, so we felt no pressure to run around all over the place if we chose to just stay on the ship. I enjoyed that feeling of relaxation! Our cruise stopped at the usual suspects.....Jamaica, Grand Caymen, Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya......we were supposed to stop at the NCL private Island (which we've been to before) but couldn't get in due to rough waters.....so we had an extra sea day which we enjoyed. Our favorite port was by far Costa Maya....they have an area for only cruise ships that was really done nicely, with shops, a pool, restaurants and bars, alot of activities and things to do and see. It was great! They had added so much since we had seen it a few years ago! Had a great time there! The best snorkeling I've ever experienced is in Cozumel.....we were told about a place called Money Beach our first trip there and have gone there every time since! It's a short cab ride from the pier and well worth it! Nice restaurant and bar, lounge chairs.....rent snorkeling gear for about $12 for the day and you're all set. Clearest water and the most fish I've ever seen!! Don't even get off the ship in Grand Caymen unless you just want to go to a beach or shop. Nothing much there IMO. Same goes for Jamaica, we got off to go to Margaritaville where we had some fun years ago, but it's really changed. Wouldn't go again, very run down, no fun, terrible service!! We're not fans of Belize either, but this time it was nice because they built a private Island which was nice, so we enjoyed it this time. Nice beach, pool with swim-up bar, shops, etc.......no comparison to Costa Maya but along the same lines. Now for the ship...... We are in the minority in that we never spend extra money to upgrade our cabin because it's just not worth it to us.....we are never in it but to shower, change and sleep!! So we keep our inside. We like to be up on the deck for breakfast, the pool, etc., we aren't they type to sit in our room by ourselves and look out at the ocean from our balcony, we like to be among the people! So my critic is for the inside cabin..... Don't listen to all the nay-sayers who complain about the set-up of the bath area.....it's no big deal! Yes, the shower, sink and toilet are all separated, but there's a curtain you can pull if you need to which only leaves the sink outside of it, but it worked fine for us. The toilet and shower also of course have their own doors, so who cares?! The room was probably the most spacious on any of the ships, the closet and drawer space was absolutely the best, and there is plenty of cabinet space for toiletries above the sink. If you can get by the unusual bath set-up, it's the best laid out room with the best closet and drawer space for everything we've had, and we've been on many NCL ships!! The food in the main dining rooms has come a long way from years ago. We were extremely impressed with everything we ordered in Taste and Manhattan Room. The buffet is average.....breakfast is breakfast and they had a good variety every morning, it's set up well in that there are quite a few "omelette stations" and they had eggs benedict every day so I was happy! Their breads are amazing, their bakery on all the NCL ships IMO is second to none. Lunch was ok, nothing special I will say for the lunch buffet but they have great chicken salad and they had a taco bar almost every day so that was cool! We ate in Le Bistro and Moderno this time with our two platinum free specialty dinners. Le Bistro wasn't as good as other ships IMO but Moderno was amazing! They have a fantastic soup/salad bar to die for!! My favorite part of the whole meal was the soup (Fiejoada)......unbelievable!! I couldn't wait to get back to that restaurant just for that. Make sure you try it!! Entertainment....the two main shows were not up to par with other ships IMO....but worth seeing......Burn the Floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Both interesting but mediocre compared to some other newer ships.....we saw Rock of Ages and Oh What a Night and Blue Man Group on other cruises. Rock of Ages is far and away my favorite, I think it's still on the Breakaway. We love Howl at the Moon so we stopped in there every night they played. The comedian Rodney L. (forget his last name, sorry) was the best I've ever seen, don't miss him!! What else......the casino......not my favorite but large and spread out, not the best selection of slots IMO and way too smokey and smelly when you got near the smoking section. Some of the games I liked were in smoking so I did have to venture in there sometimes but it was horrible!!! All in all, the Epic is one of our favorite NCL ships......we aren't fans of the pool area on the Breakaway class ships.....the Epic has a large area of outdoor tables so you can have breakfast and lunch while at the pool without having to sit in that stupid corridor or inside like on those others. That's a big deal to us, so I would choose the Epic, the Dawn, and others over that Breakaway class all day long!! Read Less

I had an assumption that all cruise`s were for old fat people, how wrong I was, my parents shouted my wife and 3 boys aged 4-8-11 and my brother and my two nieces. Absolutely blown away staff are some of the most beautiful people we have meet they remind me of the fijian`s, warm, humble, caring, genuine they were the highlight of the trip without a doubt. The boat is almost as good its is better than some 5 star hotels we had a junior suite that was well appointed had two bathrooms and plenty of room four us and storage for all our stuff was on deck 10 room 218 been mid ship when there is a bit of a swell is a blessing less movement. Hard to find information about activities before you, go but easy enough once on board. Book things as soon as you get on as you may miss out especially for I-Fly and North star the viewing arm thingy majig. Food is really good caters for al,l my wife is a vegetarian even she was happy. Take a clothes line as they charge like wounded bulls for laundry. If you like a drink or to get the drinks package they make the drinks strong so none of those weak bar drinks here !. For kids suits under 3 and over 8 years of age, our 4 year old fell in the weird zone things like bumper cars, rock wall, trapeze and roller skating he was to young to do. They do have a great kids club for all ages but we never used it. great used to taking the stairs the lifts are pain full none seem to be available always full. We will remember this for a lifetime helped when my parents paid for it stunning stunning stunning Read Less

I recently returned from my 6th Carnival cruise. This one was aboard the Carnival Liberty. I have to say it was a perfect cruise. I was very happy with it from start to end. Boarding: I arrived at my selected check in time and was through the line in minutes and onboard the ship right away. Very smooth set up at Port Canaveral. I was very happy with the boarding experience. Public Spaces: I thought that the ship was very clean and maintained well. Pools were clean and always operational as well as all hot tubs on the ship. They could have been a bit warmer in my opinion but still everything was operational and very nice. Lines were minimal at the Lido buffet as well as Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana they did a good job keeping up with the demand. The set up for the deli was good too. Lines were fast as they typically had three people working in there. The fasted deli I have experienced on any of my Carnival cruises. The pizza pirate also was good the most of the day but got very busy late at night. Say close to 1130. I never noticed any foul smells around the ship anywhere like some have mentioned in the past. I also loved the decoration in the lobby area. All the iron work and the beautiful chandelier that displayed a variety of colors. It made for beautiful evenings in the atrium Entertainment: On my four night cruise the shows were Flick and America Rocks as well as Hasbro the Game Show. Playlist cast did a great job the performances were well done. Lots of energy and talent. In the atrium the onboard music group was the Blue Waves. Again they were also amazing and had quite a following every night. I very much enjoyed listening to their shows every night. Comedy was alright. Like on any ship be sure to arrive plenty early if you want a decent seat or even a seat at all. all shows I went to were standing room only. The cruise director for this cruise was Nono and while she has only been a cruise director for a little over a year she is incredible. Loved her energy and her passion for her job. She loved talking to people and taking selfies. She really brought the fun to the ship. I hope to sail with her again Main Dining Room: I had Your Time Dining. I typically arrived anywhere between 600 and 630 and never had a line or a long wait for my table. Two of the nights I had the same serving team. On all nights I ordered from the Port of Call Menu. Had some really good meals here. Everyone came out warm and delicious and flavorful. The port of call menu continues to be a favorite of mine on my Carnival cruises. Tender Process: On this cruise I tendered to Princess Cays. Again great set up. They arrived early and said if we were ready we could come on down to the gangway and board the tender with no stickers. So that’s what I did. No line at all and we were to the island very quickly. Again very pleased with the set up and how smooth it all went. Stateroom: I was in room 7232 on deck 7. I loved the location. Easy access to atrium and also the lido area. My room was also near the "Secret deck" all the way forward on deck 7. Always such a quiet place to go to get away from the crowd and watch us coming into and leaving port for the day. The room was great. It was clean and everything in working order. For the people who say there is only one outlet in the room and it’s by the desk area don’t forget that in the bathroom there is also an outlet. It’s near the ceiling but it works just fine and easy to use to charge your electronics. Again no issues with the stateroom everything was good and it was quiet even though close to the action. I was very happy with this cruise and the ship. I would return to the Liberty any day. I trust that anyone who sails on her will have a great time. Read Less

I was a bit leery after reading negative reviews of this cruise, especially in regards to the food and the service. We found that to be not true at all. The food was fresh, hot, and tasty in the buffet and especially in the specialty restaurants. The specialty restaurants arem a separate fee, but a package price is available. We found that the staff went out of their way to assist, and interact. The entertainment was good but not great, but they had many extra activities like dance classes and lei making. The shore excursions seemed overpriced, so we just rented a car in each port and that worked very smoothly. We were able to see the things that we were most interested in. The price was more than your ordinary cruise elsewhere, so it scored lower on the value area. We are glad we took this cruise and would highly recommend it. Read Less

There is practically nothing to do on that ship. One good show in 14 days, boring violin music (sometimes) most of the time no music at all. Decent music on pool deck but all chairs reserved so no place to sit. Most people on that cruise were playing cards or reading. Drinks are watered down so bad that you can't tell if they have alcohol in them or not. Food not terrible but nothing great either. Lounge chairs are reserved (some people leave the towel on them overnight so no one can use the chairs the next day and they don't show up until 2pm (I checked and towels are left overnight) staff should pick them up after an hour or so if no one shows up on chairs. Went through Panama canal but crew had blocked the view on deck 7 so everybody was on deck 12-13 so we couldn't see anything then they try to sell you the pictures that their photographs took. Service stinks, waiters are also bored and it shows, if you want a drink you have to go get it yourself because waiters will not come and see if you want something. Most of the time you're ignored. Drinks are watered down, there is a 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill and they want more... Bottom line: If you're under 85 years old, get on a different ship Read Less

My friend and I were looking for a cruise and found this one on the internet. It was a wonderful experience for me. The embarkation process [ from 11:30] until we were in our cabin was to long for me. The disembarkation went very smooth. The cabin was excellent and always nice and clean. The beds are fantastic. I enjoyed the balcony very much. The food were outstanding and there were something for anyone to eat. Even the two extra days we were on the ship - the food were still enough. The crew and waiters were always friendly and helpful. I did not take part in the outdoor activities because that is not my kind of thing. But I enjoyed the shows and the documentary films very much. I really enjoyed the lounges where I could relaxed with a book. The hospital crew were great and help my friendly and very quick. I certainly will make use of your cruises again in the future Read Less
