Great ship and Crew But . . .

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Duchess

We accompanied another couple who had chosen this cruise from Memphis to New Orleans. The weekend before our cruise, New Orleans was hit by Hurricane Ida. We called the Monday before our embarkation to find out if the cruise was still on, and if our 2 night extension in New Orleans was still going to happen. We didn't get any answers until late in the afternoon the day before we were due to ...

American Queen Steamboat Company has poor customer service from main office. Review of Mississippi River

The American Queen Steamboat Company needs to improve customer service from the company office. The experience on the American Duchess was very good and the crew went out of their way to accommodate. However, the corporate office did not care about their customers concerns about taking the cruise under these conditions and promises made by company representative were not followed up on. We had to ...

AQSC Duchess "Mighty Mississippi" - Red Wing, MN to New Orleans, LA

Wonderful 14-day cruise down the Mississippi River for my wife and I. This was a retirement celebration re-scheduled from the same cruise last year which was cancelled due to Covid. The pre-cruise hotel in Bloomington, MN was nice and we were able to start getting acquainted with other cruisers. The pre-cruise check-in was smooth and easy. No Covid testing required, just show your ...

My husband and I took the American Duchess from St. Louis to Minneapolis on the Mississippi River. We knew it would be quieter than other cruises we have taken, but we were not really prepared for how little there was to do (both onboard and at the ports of call). The boat had virtually no entertainment, other than cheesy 45-minute shows given each day by an entertainment staff of 3 people ...

We loved our whole trip. Flew into New Orleans the day before and had a nice stay in the hotel included in the price. Transfers to the boat was very nice and easy. Once on board were meet with snacks and we went to our room. Bags waiting for us. We could not stop at our first location and used that day to cruise up the river to Baton Rouge. We did the hop on hop off bus tour. Drivers were great ...

We recently cruised on the American Duchess during the March 9th sailing. The schedule had multiple changes from the ports we were originally scheduled to visit. Though we were disappointed about the changes, the staff were very professional and the shore excursions person on board worked very hard to make sure our land experience was still top notch. Tours were well organized, and we really ...

What to know - no glitz, no crowds, no pools. Instead - beautiful scenery, friendly helpful staff, daily enrichment, low key enjoyable entertainment, menus that reflect locations, and interesting ports. What to do - Included with your cruise, at no additional cost, at each port, is - bus, guide(s), admission to various sites. (‘Premium’ tours are available for additional purchase). We’ve ...

The Lower Mississippi at Very High Water

As experienced ocean cruisers we chose this cruise up the Mississippi in late April to see some southern states before the summer heat. This year the heavy spring rains within the Mississippi watershed had created major upstream flooding; however, the only impact to our cruise was two of our docks were damaged and unusable and one of our planned stops was canceled. Overall, the cruise was great ...

Entire boat was reserved for Road Scholar members for this cruise. Instead of the standard one day stay in New Orleans with tours, Road Scholar had two before boarding. The food and service was outstanding, either in the Main Dining Room with a very good selections or in the Grill Room/Terrace buffet. Most of us chose the Main Dining Room for dinner, wine and beer is included with dinner. and ...
