Coral Expeditions has announced a circumnavigation of the Australian coastline onboard its new flagship, Coral Adventurer. Only 60 cabins are available on this one-off voyage, which will also be the first around-Australia cruise to start and finish in Darwin.

The special cruise marks the Cairns-based company’s 35th anniversary of small ship expedition cruising in Australia and will visit 35 places of maritime, cultural and natural significance, many of which are hard to reach by land. Departing 7 November 2020, the 60-day itinerary also features overnight stopovers and events in ports such as Fremantle, Adelaide, Hobart, Sydney and Cairns.

Among the highlights is Christmas Day in Uluru, which will see passengers disembark in Cairns and fly by private jet to a memorable “Australian Christmas dinner under the stars” at the iconic rock, before jetting back to the ship that same evening.

At Cape Leeuwin, a private winemakers’ dinner is set to be held at the renowned Leeuwin Estate vineyards, while in Sydney, the historic barque, James Craig, will be privately chartered for a harbour cruise.

“We are excited to imagine and to deliver this first-of-a-kind expedition voyage around Australia to celebrate our 35 years,” said Mark Fifield, Group General Manager, Coral Expeditions. “It is a significant milestone, an ambitious adventure and is in keeping with our spirit as pioneers of the expedition experience.”

The year 2020 also aligns with the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s exploration and discovery of Australia, the 200th anniversary of Sir Philip Parker King’s landing at Careening Bay on his great northern explorations and the 75th year commemoration of the end of WWII -- milestones that will shape several other shore excursions.

A partnership with Australian Geographic will enhance the curation of these land tours and onboard educational content including keynote guest lecturers and experts joining the journey.

The 120-passenger Coral Adventurer has been specially designed by Coral Expeditions to suit this style of extended expedition cruising. The ship’s Xplorer tenders (pictured above) allow fast transit for all passengers with open views on shore excursions and deeper exploration into the visiting regions.

On sale from 29 November 2018, the 2020 Australian Circumnavigation is priced from AU$38,860 per person twin share. Limited single cabins are also available.
