(1:50 p.m. GMT) -- P&O Cruises has launched a photography competition for passengers to create two large pieces of art for Iona, its new ship to be launched in 2020.
From January 20 you can post pictures of the sea and sky -- the specific theme the line is looking for -- on social media with the hashtag #WeLoveIona.
Nine images will be chosen for each piece of art, which will be hung in public spaces onboard Iona.
The images will be used to create collages of horizons from around the world.
The art works will hang alongside Iona's art collection, which will feature more than 4,600 paintings, pictures and sculptures.
The multi-million-pound collection is being curated by art expert Tom Tempest Radford. Continuing the long-held P&O Cruises tradition of supporting British artists, the majority of the work will be sourced in the UK. Much of the art onboard will reflect key elements and characteristics behind Iona’s design. The collection will take inspiration from the sea, the wonder of nature and the sense of outdoors.
The competition is launching across multiple social media channels with a video presented by P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow. Paul and Tom Tempest Radford will choose the 18 pictures needed from all the entries. The person judged to have submitted the best overall image will be invited to Iona’s naming ceremony in Southampton in Spring 2020.The 17 runners up will join a ship visit in Iona’s maiden year.
P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, said: "The overall design of our ships is from valuable insight from our guests, so we thought it was time to have input for some of our large scale art work too.
"The images we are looking for can be taken anywhere, from a local beach to far flung places or even on one of our ships."
Iona will be the largest ship ever built specifically for the UK market. Launching in spring 2020, it will carry 5,200 passengers and run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), making it the cleanest in the fleet, too.
• The competition closes at the end of February, with the results announced in May this year. Entrants are asked to submit their pictures in a square format. Alternatively, an entry form featuring digital photo upload, with a full list of requirements and terms and conditions can be found on the link from P&O Cruises Facebook channel.
