(3:06 p.m. BST) -- MSC Cruises will delay including tips for UK & Ireland passengers, with no set date in place for when they will be included within cruise fares.

The line initially claimed at the launch of MSC Bellissima in Southampton last month that service charges would be included within cruise fares from April 2.

Passengers sailing on the line's 3,502-passenger MSC Preziosa, which offers a short season of 10 voyages out of Southampton between April and September 2019, will be affected by the delay.

In a statement, Antonio Paradiso, MD of MSC Cruises for the UK & Ireland, said: "We plan to make this change as soon as possible and are currently working on an implementation plan in order that the change causes as little disruption as possible to both our travel agents and guests. We will share further communications over the next few weeks giving agents and guests instructions on how any changes will affect existing and future bookings."

MSC currently adds a daily "Hotel Service Charge" -- also known as "auto-gratuities" -- to passenger accounts, with the amount varying depending on the destination. In Europe, for example, the fee is 10 euros per person per night for adults and five euros for children per person per night.

Tipping is often a concern for UK passengers with P&O Cruises announcing in August 2018 that it was scrapping auto-gratuities from May 2019. Saga Cruises' new-build Spirit of Discovery will go all-inclusive from November 2019 and Marella Cruises is also now all inclusive.
