(12:55 p.m. EDT) -- Princess Cruises' newest ship - the 3,660-passenger Enchanted Princess – was floated out in builder Fincantieri's Monfalcone, Italy shipyard on August 6.

Scheduled for a June 2020 launch, Enchanted Princess is considered both Royal class, with similar features as sister ships  Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess and Sky Princess (coming in October 2019), and Medallion class.

The latter designation means that the ship has the capability to handle both Princess Cruises’ OceanMedallion wearable technology and MedallionNet internet speeds. Enchanted Princess is the second ship to be built from the ground up with the technology (after Sky Princess); an OceanMedallion disc was welded into the ship’s keel during a February ceremony.

The float out ceremony is a significant moment in any ship's construction; it occurs when the vessel first touches water. Unlike naming ceremonies, float outs are for the engineers and construction workers. Marinella Cossu, an employee of the shipyard, served as Enchanted Princess' godmother for the ceremony.

Now that Enchanted Princess has been floated out, it will be moved out of dry dock. The ship's interior will be completed in wet dock.
