Cruise Critic's annual Cruisers' Choice Awards are based solely on the ratings from everyday cruisers' reviews. This year's awards include reviews submitted for cruises taken during 2017, and they're given in three categories: Large (2,000 passengers or more), Mid-Size (1,200-1,999) and Small (1,199 or fewer).

"The UK Cruisers' Choice Awards mark an important date in the cruise industry's calendar, highlighting the cruise ships that UK travellers rank as particularly outstanding -- from excellent service and amazing entertainment to the best dining experiences, cabins and shore excursions," said Adam Coulter, Cruise Critic's UK managing editor. "Our members play an invaluable role in helping to inform and guide other cruisers and first-time travellers to find and choose the best cruise ships for their ideal holiday, and indeed, we couldn't have this authoritative awards programme without them."

This year, in the mid-size category, Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson Cruises) walked away with four awards -- up from three last year -- including Best Overall, Best Service, Best for Value and Best Shore Excursions, all for Marella Spirit.

Additionally, Cunard claimed Best Cabins for Queen Victoria, as well as the Best Public Rooms accolade.

Stealing the show in the small ship category, Hurtigruten came away with wins in five areas: Best Overall, Best Cabins, Best Service, Best Shore Excursions and Best for Value.

Viking Ocean Cruises also grabbed three awards, while Fred. Olsen captured two -- one in the mid-size category and one under small ships.
