(7:00 a.m. GMT) -- Marella Cruises has revealed details of its latest ship, Marella Explorer 2, which will launch in May next year and be the first adults-only ship in the fleet.

The 1,814-passenger ship is expected to have many of the same features debuting this May on sister ship Marella Explorer, including a Champneys Spa, a number of brand new shows and popular dining and drinking venues including Kora-La, Shake Shack and Surf and Turf.

However, the new ship will see the exclusive Veranda area doubled in size and a new Royal Suite which measures 102 square metres featuring a separate bedroom, dressing room, dining area and whirlpool bath. It will have a total of 907 cabins, of which nearly 40 per cent have balconies.

Currently sailing in China as SkySea Golden Era, the ship began life in 1995 as Celebrity Century. It is a sister ship to Marella Explorer, currently sailing as Mein Schiff 1, formerly Celebrity Galaxy.

Marella Explorer 2 will be based at a new homeport of Naples with itineraries to include stops in Venice, Rome and Dubrovnik.

In addition, the line will go all-inclusive for everyone from May next year, including transfers and tips. Marella Dream and Marella Celebration will join the rest of the fleet in becoming all-inclusive as standard.

Managing Director of Marella Cruises Chris Hackney said: "We are really pleased to announce Marella Explorer 2 as an adults-only ship from next summer, sailing from our brand new home port of Naples, offering customers yet more choice and flexibility. Our summer 2019 programme offers guests an array of exciting destinations and itineraries and All Inclusive as standard on all of our ships. We continue to look at ways to offer something different to our current customers who have come to enjoy our ships and friendly service onboard and those who may be thinking about booking a cruise for the first time." .

The summer 2019 programme will be on sale from 5 April 2018.
