(4:30 p.m.) -- In a bid to deliver in-depth destination experiences -- the latest trend among small-ship and high-end cruise lines -- Windstar has doubled the number of its small-group Concierge Collection shore excursions for 2018.
Windstar has added 44 new tours to offer a total of 90 worldwide. The Concierge Collection tours have a maximum participant number ranging from 4 to 16 travelers, with most taking fewer than 10 passengers.
The intimate tours focus on local food experiences, nature-based activities and off-the-beaten-path destinations or a combination of the above.
"At Windstar, we are out to own destination authenticity and deliver the destination experience better than anyone else with more immersive tours, more overnights and longer hours in port to explore. Our teams, who carefully craft each excursion, are the clever architects of our guest's vacation, designing each experience to top the last one," said Windstar President John Delaney in a company statement.
New Concierge Collection tours include a market tour and cooking class at the Blue Door Hotel in Tangier, Morocco; a hike with local huskie dogs in Tromso, Norway; flightseeing and snowmobiling in Heimaey Island, Iceland; and a fishing outing where you cook your catch in Ketchikan, Alaska.
