(11:50 a.m. EDT) -- Expedition cruise line One Ocean Expeditions has expanded its fleet with the addition of RCGS Resolute, which will be named in a ceremony in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on October 16. The ship will operate alongside fleetmates Akademik Ioffe and Akademik Sergey Vavilo.

Though One Ocean is best known for its Antarctica Cruises, it will be operating RCGS Resolute on a variety of worldwide itineraries, including, for the first time, warm-weather destinations during the shoulder season. The line has not yet indicated which destinations it will visit.

RCGS Resolute will carry 146 passengers. It was built in 1989 and most recently sailed for 25 years with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

In other expedition cruise news, SunStone Ships has exercised its option to build a second ice-class expedition vessel with China Merchants Heavy Industry shipyard. The line's first ship, Greg Mortimer, is already under construction and scheduled for delivery in August 2019. It will be chartered by Aurora Expeditions; this second ship will also be chartered by Aurora.
