A sister vessel to the William Shakespeare that was launched in 2014, Charles Dickens marks the continued expansion of Riviera Travel's European fleet to nine vessels.
Offering itineraries through the heart of Europe on the Rhine, Moselle and Danube, the ship features contemporary decor that includes sustainably sourced hardwoods and brass and wrought iron fittings. Design details include the use of special sound absorbent paint on the restaurant ceiling to reduce noise levels during mealtimes. The restaurant, which operates an open dining system, also has tinted panoramic windows so diners won't miss any scenery by having to pull down window blinds on sunny days. The bar at the rear of the ship is also used as an intimate evening dining venue where the chef serves signature dishes to 24 guests. This can be reserved onboard at no extra charge.
The majority of cabins are 161 square feet. On the upper deck there are four 245-square-foot suites with sliding glass doors leading to a balcony with table and chairs. The other cabins on the upper and middle decks have French balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows where both panes of glass slide back over the outside of the ship to open the whole window to the fresh air.
Amenities include a fitness room, sauna and hair salon. There is a large sun deck and passengers are welcome to visit the bridge at any time, except when the vessel is berthing or navigating locks.
