Avalon View Overview

Avalon View will be Avalon Waterways' 14th Suite Ship in Europe and its 17th river cruise vessel overall when it debuts in 2020 on the Rhine. Sister to Avalon Envision, which debuted in 2019, Avalon View continues to offer Avalon's signature "Panorama Suite" balcony cabins, which feature wall-to-wall windows that open fully to create an open-air balcony within the cabin.

Travelers can expect the same contemporary design found aboard Avalon's previous vessels, along with the company's increasing commitment to offering active diversions for passengers both onboard and ashore. Complimentary bicycles are available for cruisers to use as part of the Onboard Adventure Center, as are Nordic walking sticks and other fun accessories. Shore excursions that revolve around leisurely, traditional or independent levels of activity are also featured.

Meals are served in the ship's main restaurant, with breakfast, lunch and dinner options available daily. Cuisine is European-influenced, with North American favorites. Avalon goes to great lengths to offer regional specialties onboard, from ingredients to beverages like wine and beers, both of which are complimentary (along with soft drinks) during lunches and dinners onboard.

More casual dining options can be found in the Panorama Bistro or outdoors at the al fresco Sky Grill. Unusual for a river cruise ship, Avalon View offers room service for beverages and Continental breakfast for a small service fee.

Avalon View offers two decks of Avalon's 200-square foot Panorama Suites, which are larger than industry-standard. Beds are positioned to face the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall French balcony windows, and a small sitting area complements eacj room. A writing desk, vanity and closets provide plenty of storage space, and bathrooms are some of the nicest on the rivers of Europe, with a full-size shower and vanity stocked with L'Occitane toiletries.

Two large Royal Suites are located on the uppermost Royal Deck. These come in at 300 square feet apiece and are the largest accomodations onboard, offering an enlarged living area and a bathroom with a dual-sink vanity, a standalone shower and a separate toilet room.

At the more economical end of the scale are Avalon View's 16 Deluxe Staterooms. Situated down on Indigo Deck, these 172-square-foot cabins are generously sized when compared with those on other river cruise vessels. They offer fixed half-height windows positioned near the ceiling, offering river views, and the same bathrooms and amenities as the larger (and more expensive) Panorama Suites.

Up top, when weather permits, Avalon View offers the alfresco Sky Grill for light bites taken within sight of Europe's majestic scenery. A seating area forward of the wheelhouse offers panoramic views, while an on-deck hot tub and a deck games area round out the features on the ships uppermost sun deck.

The Panorama Lounge is the social and entertainment hub aboard Avalon View. Surrounded by 180 degrees of floor-to-ceiling windows, this cozy, quiet and reflective space hosts everything from cooking demonstrations and lectures to evening recaps.

In the evenings, entertainment is likely to include a solo piano player tickling the ivories for those still enjoying a nightcap or performances by local entertainers brought onboard in select ports of call.

Avalon View will sail the Rhine and Danube when it debuts. The ship's two staple departures will be the eight-day "Romantic Rhine" voyage between Amsterdam and Basel (or reverse) and the weeklong "Danube Dreams" from Budapest to Deggendorf, Germany (or reverse).
