Outfitted with eight zodiac rafts and a host of sumptuous suites, 100-passenger Silver Origin will be Silversea's newest luxury expedition ship when it debuts in August 2020. Exclusively created to sail the Galapagos Islands off the Ecuadorian mainland, Silver Origin will be based there year-round, sailing weeklong itineraries that operate from Baltra to San Cristobal or the reverse.

Building a new ship destined for the Galapagos Islands is no easy task, as the region is one of the most heavily-regulated in the world for travel. Staff and food have to be primarily sourced from the Galapagos Islands or mainland Ecuador, and Silversea has invested heavily in a training regimen to recruit the best Ecuadorian talent to provide its standard of five-star service.

The company's previous Galapagos vessel, Silver Galapagos, was something of a weak link, despite numerous refits to improve its decor. But Silver Origin looks to rival Silversea's "classic" fleet in terms of interior decor and luxurious appointments, mimicking the style introduced by the company's current flagship, Silver Muse.

Meals are primarily offered in The Restaurant, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in a casual indoor environment.

True to the Galapagos and in keeping with Silversea's new S.A.L.T. culinary program, cuisine will be an intriguing blend of Ecuadorian, North American and international dishes. Silversea is mandated by Ecuadorian law to provision the vessel with primarily Ecuadorian products, so don't expect your favorite bottle of wine from Bordeaux to be onboard. However, do be on the lookout for a variety of wonderful alternatives from other regions in South America.

At The Grill, Silversea's popular Hot Rocks dining concept will be presented alongside a variety of casual favorites, each presented with its own Ecuadorian twist. The Grill will offer mainly open-air dining, although a portion of the restaurant will be partially enclosed for use in inclement weather.

Room service is always available for suite passengers.

All-suite Silver Origin will feature eight different categories of accomodations, all of which offer ocean views.

Several new concepts for Silversea will be introduced aboard Silver Origin, including the line's first Horizon Balconies, which feature a drop-down floor-to-ceiling window that creates an in-suite balcony.

Other noteworthy new suite additions include an ocean-view bathtub in select categories and an ocean-view shower accessible from the balcony in select suite categories.

Top-of-the-line accommodations are the Owner's Suite and Silver Suites, which share the same color scheme and lavish amenities found aboard Silversea's current flagship, Silver Muse.

Up top, Silver Origin offers plenty of open deck space for lounging and scenic cruising. Space is dedicated on this deck for the Observation Lounge, The Grill, and a spacious, aft-facing whirlpool tub. A platform for stargazing is also available all the way forward on a small technical deck.

The area known as Basecamp will serve as one of Silver Origin's most innovative spaces. Located adjacent to the embarkation area for the ship's zodiac rafts, Basecamp will function as a sort of edutainment space, hosting activities with the vessel's onboard Expedition Team, as well as presentations and excursion previews that utilize a gigantic, interactive digital wall.

More traditional cruise entertainment can be found in the Explorers Lounge. Daily briefings and lectures will be held there with the ship's Expedition Team. It will also house nightly music and plenty of casual seating options reminiscent of a comfortable lobby at an upscale hotel.

At the top of the ship, the Observation Lounge will showcase 180-degree panoramic views of the Galapagos Islands. Silversea says the Observation Lounge aboard Silver Origin will boast the most extensive collection of destination-specific books aboard any of its ships. Situated all the way forward, it will serve as a library and lounge for passengers seeking a little quiet time.

Silver Origin will sail year-round itineraries in the Galapagos Islands upon entry into service on August 22, 2020. Voyages will sail from Baltra to San Cristobal, or reverse, lasting one week in duration.
