Forgot to mention, we were on the Meraviglia last year same time, same ports, for the same birthday celebration, we had a lot of fun, especially with our dinner mates in the main dining. The shows were good, drinks and service charge more reasonable than most cruise lines.

Gentle reminder to be wary of smart pick pockets especially in Barcelona and Palermo!

Most ports are great and easy to just walk off, even Barcelona, it’s a hike from port to Las Ramblas but such views walking across the big bridge to the city and then you are at the Christopher Columbus’ statue at the start of Las Ramblas!  We loved Monserrat, and the little Picasso museum in Barcelona is fantastic!

Marseille is an industrial port about a half hour to town, have to shuttle bus or taxi to town or go on an excursion, we have done Aix in Provence,  Avignon, Marseille, and more tours in the south of France on previous cruises or vacas and recommend them all!  We love to go to Marseille for the mussels in white wine sauce and the French wine!

Malta’s port is a nice walk to downtown Valletta, or do a tour, it’s a small small country!  We stayed there on several trips plus many cruise stops, our fave things were Popeyes village where they turned the Robert Altman movie set into a theme park that serves wine 😂 it’s fun for kids of all ages; and the places St Peter hid before being sent to Rome.  They drive on the left side, that was fun in a rental car!

Palermo is a foodie paradise!  We have walked most of the city on foot and we have done the hop on and off to see the town.  Looking at doing an excursion out of town this time.  We plan to leave the gun and take the cannoli 😂

    Enjoy, be safe!

Hi! My husband and I are boarding on March 17 in Rome and celebrating our 10th Anniversary. We are in our early 40s and live in South Florida.  With two small children, this 11-day trip is our first big one since our Asian honeymoon! 😄

Hi Jen! We are also leaving March 17th from Rome (fly out from Tampa on Thursday evening the 14th) and are also from Florida. We will be with our children also but they are 13 & 15. So excited 🙂

    Hi!

We are boarding the ship from Barcelona. It´s our first cruise  and we are really looking forward to this vacation. Wonder if anyone have som tips og tricks for excursions in Rome .

    Best regards

    Vibeke and Jeppe from Denmark

Ciao tutti!  We lived in Rome almost 6 years and still live nearby! Civitavecchia is an easy 20 minute walk to train station from port, then about an hour + cheap train to Rome termini, and you can walk to the colosseum , Trevi, Pantheon, would need to metro or taxi to Vatican.  For your ease, if ship or visitor has bus to Rome, you can do that and walk or taxi around town easily.

Any questions, glad to help!  Jlhuenink@embarqmail.com

Hans and Janet Huenink, expat Amcits and sailors, who live in Anzio Italy just purchased this cruise and will be joining in Civitavecchia on March 17, 2019 for 7 nights, starting with St Patty’s day and celebrating Hans 64th birthday March 18, 2019!  We have done this cruise on various lines quite often as we enjoy all the venues!

Has anyone booked non cruiseline excursions?  We are interested in wine tour in Palermo and Marseilles!

    grazie
