The main reason for me to do this cruise was that this ship was going to Vietnam where I was sent in 1967 as a National Serviceman to see the changes in the region I was in and to take my wife. I found this ship was far too big and there appeared at times to be a lack of staff in certain areas to cope with this. We ate in the anytime dining most of the time and on a number of occasions the wait between was far too long one time was an hour wait. The Princess Theater to me was not large enough and if you were to sit at the rear you were obstructed by the cameras and lights on the ceiling, also the front twelve or so rows were not teared and the seats did not have a tray for your refreshments. The embarkation was a total disaster in Shanghai with no Princes representative advising us for the reason for the long wait in queues in the heat. We were not informed the reason until almost on the ship, the reason being it was late in docking. Overall the entertainment was good with a variety of shows. Something has to be done regarding passengers not vacating the areas where you were served coffee when there are plenty of areas throughout the ship to play cards, knit, read a book and just generally chat. The disembarkation at Sydney Circular Quay was terrific with not a hitch. Read Less

New destinations were the main attraction. The ship is beautifully appointed and spacious. The live shows were excellent but you need to get seated an hour before the show if you want a prime seat. The food started out quite interest but faded to average by week two and many dishes were reserved with a different name. Many of the staff appeared to be new and not really well trained .. this led to a lot of misinformation and confusion for the passengers. Many passengers stated that they had cruised with princess Cruises on several occasions and enjoyed their cruise, however, this particular cruise was the worst experience for cruising that they had encountered. Hopefully, this was just a " one off" for the lovely Majestic Princess and the staff will pick up their game with experience. The shore excursions ( booked through Princess Cruises ) prior to leaving Australia, were well worth while and interesting. Read Less

We did a few cruises, and loved the last one on the Diamond Princess from Sydney to Singapore, it was civilised, well organised, with amazing entertainment and great service, several different outdoor areas to relaxed and unwind but also several areas to appreciate music and entertainers in the evening and to dance if we wanted. None of this was the case on the Majestic Princess ! I don't know if it is still in the teething process, but nothing was clear, the plan of the ship doesn't make sense (one big outdoor area with two small pools, 6 small spa pools (one not working as a spa) for 3000 passengers !! One undercover indoor pool area with strong chlorine smell, which was supposed to be a fun hollywood disco at night, but which was empty after 5.00 pm. No deck in the front of the ship. No real promenade deck (just tow decks on level 7 on both side of the Atrium with 10 chairs). And only one dancing area in the very public and opened atrium. A big shopping area (which was described as the biggest department store at sea !!) with 3 shops (one jewellery and leather, one perfume and one very sad clothes shop with a poor range of polo shirts for men and stretch cotton dresses for women) ! A casino (which again was supposed to be one of the biggest at sea) which was cut in one third to create an extra bar (the Crooners). The nightmare started at boarding in Shanghai : 4.5 hours standing in a queue for boarding, part of it in full sun, no seats, no water, no explanation of what was going on !!! We had a mini suite, which although slightly smaller then the Diamond, are a good size. But it was smelly and not clean (clamps of hair on the balcony, blood stains on the curtains..) We understood later that the ship was delayed on her arrival to Shanghai, and that is where most of these problems were coming from, however no one was there to explain and apologise ! After initial disappointment, we decided to make the best out of it, and remain positive. However disorganisation kept on bothering us : The second night we had to wait over half an hour for a table in the Concerto restaurant (and we were anytime dining), and again 3 days later. Most of the nights half of the wine were not available from the wine list (the waiters were very apologetic and had an exhaustive hand written list of the wine which were no more available (our main waiter told us that it would get better after Brisbane which was 2 days before our arrival. And worse of all, you had to queue for almost everything (a free seat around the pool, a free seat on the decks bellow, a free seat in the atrium cafe, a drink at most of the bars, a waiter to pass by...) The service was mostly pleasant, but they certainly did lack numbers. We understood that this ship was created to cater for the Asian market, and we knew it when we booked. We liked the idea of the Karaoke rooms (which were cancelled when we arrived) we like the idea of the juice bar and the dim sim and dumpling bars (which were cancelled). I have the feeling that the marketing team got overwhelmed by the change in the client target (more than 80 % of the clientele was from Australia, New Zealand or North America !) and tried to patch where and however they could. If you add to this that the entertainment was poor : Same three groups over and over from one side of the boat to the other. One really good show in 22 days. And the same entertainer for the whole trip in most of the bar. Day entertainment was equally poor if you compare it to the entertainment onboard the Diamond Princess (and for a ship of this size). And the fontain water show (which was advertised as the main attraction) is a totally non event (and according to me a total lost of space on the main outdoor deck, and could have been an extra pool) There is no doubt that this vessel is meant to be a money maker (we payed $499 to access the only quiet spa area-advertised as the tranquility heaven of the ship). we didn't have the wine we wanted on the wine list, but were offered repeatedly to join the paying wine tasting to try the wine from the menu, to purchase digestifs alcohols with matching glasses... !!! And a lot of fuss and advertising about deals in the shops (a big piece of the daily entertainment program), at the spa... In conclusion, we made the best out of these holidays, but wouldn't know whom recommend it to, as it doesn't seam to be clear on the clientele target : If you like quietness and luxe, you will find it noisy (constant loud music in the outdoor public areas, and no where to escape) If you like loud music fun and dance, there is no dance floors, no disco, and no fun dance entertainment. If you like outdoor water and pool be ready to share it with a lot of other people. But we did meet a few nice people and friends, and were reassured by the kindness of most of the staff people, which is actually the main positive of this trip ! Read Less

It was a great experience to sail on the Majestic Princess as she sailed "Down Under " for her Maiden Voyage to Australia. She certainly is a very large and beautiful ship. We spent 11 days in China before embarking which was a great experience, then 22 days on board exploring Majestic from top to bottom.The highlight was the Ultimate Ships tour which includes a visit to the bridge. We also we experienced "The Chefs Table Lumiere fine dining experience, and the Harmony Restaurant. The World Fresh Market Place dining has an excellent choice of food.All the staff and crew were extremely warm and friendly.We took advantage of the all inclusive photo package, so all photos from the 22 day voyage only $249, There was heaps of entertainment, live music, shows. Andrew the cruise director and his staff were fantastic.Shore excursions were well organised.We aquired a new member to our family as we adopted " Grandpa Stanley ". As he ventured around the ship he was hugged by many of the passengers and crew. It was a fantastic journey. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destinations and the timing suited us both. We spent three nights in Shanghai which gave us enough time to explore this interesting city. What did I like about our cruise onboard the Majestic Princess? The service was very good, friendly and efficient. The tapas in Vines Bar pre-dinner was a nice addition. The Hollywood Pool Club was a pleasant place to relax during the day. Both pools are heated. Movies under the Stars was an enjoyable experience particularly on warm evenings. The classical musicians were excellent and provided appropriate ambience in the atrium. The ports of call were interesting and we enjoyed all of them. Harmony restaurant was great and well worth the cover charge. The destination lectures were informative and interesting. Disembarkation in Sydney was a breeze. What did I dislike? Embarkation in Shanghai took three hours. Enough said. The house band often played in the atrium before dinner and the music was way too loud. It made having a conversation near impossible. The entertainment and activities were geared towards an older demographic. Only one deck party on a 22 night cruise says it all. Nowhere to place your drink in the theatre. Not a lot of options where to go for night caps considering the size of the ship. The openness of the atrium reminded me of an upmarket shopping centre. No observation lounge or wrap around promenade deck. We kept getting drinks charged to our account even though we both had a drink package. This was a daily occurrence. In summary, would we go again? We’ve done a couple of cruises to south east Asia, so probably not. We’d like to explore different destinations now. This was our second cruise with Princess and have found the demographic onboard too old for us, so it’s unlikely we’ll do one in the near future. We’ve cruised with Celebrity in the past and they are more to our liking. Read Less

There was a group of four of us who chose this cruise as we liked the Ports of Call and the length of the Cruise. We had previously done a cruise on the Diamond Princess and really enjoyed that. Sadly we were very disappointed with this cruise. Embarkation was a disaster with queues as long as 3 hours, waiting in the hot sun with no cold water supplied, no chairs for the older people and no explanation from Princess. It appears that this is normal procedure for them. This Ship is large, but has no flow to it. There are no outdoor decks where you can walk all the way around. Getting from the front to the rear of the ship requires you to go up or down a floor to get to the other end. It appears that Princess has added more passengers and removed a lot of the public areas to do this. There is only two pool areas. One indoor which is fine, but the air-con keeps it cool The outdoor area has two small pools, right next to each other and is the noisiest part of the ship. It is right under the movie screen and when there are no movies being shown a band appears and plays as loud as possible. If you are wanting to lie around the pool reading and swimming quietly in the sun this ship is not for you. We were looking forward to using the Kareoke areas on this ship, however they have been removed, as has the Juice Bar. Once again no explanation from Princess as to what is going. They are still written on the options on all the signage onboard, they just no longer exist. We were in a Mini Suite on the 14th floor. Our room was nice, but the balcony was a waste of time. It was so small we didn't use it. Two of us could not fit out there at the same time. Anytime dining???? When you have to queue for 30 minutes to get a table in the restaurant at night it doesn't feel like they are coping with the large number of passengers on board. We didn't bother with the shows. You have to get there 30 minutes before the show to get a seat (at every sitting!). Service from restaurant staff was of a high standard as was our room steward. Bar staff however .............the normal wait time to get your drinks in the Wake Bar is 30 minutes after ordering. If you want a drink by the pool you have to go to the bar (no staff serving drinks to your lounger) and hope that the staff are not entertaining everyone with their juggling act. These juggling acts can go on so long you are better to go to the wake bar at the other end of the ship, wait your 30 minutes for your drink, then go back to the pool!!! We were very excited about travelling on this new ship, however have been very disappointed. We do travel regularly and have all done numerous cruises across several cruise lines. We went on this cruise to have a good time and we did manage to do this, however I think we will give Princess a miss for our next cruise. They don't cope with large numbers of passengers very well. We have been on 13 cruises and spent 147 days at sea, we are Platinum members with Princess, this review is from our perspective and is based on our experiences on previous cruises we have done and the video and written marketing expectations created by Princess. Embarkation was a disaster with people queued for 2.5 to 5 hours in the heat with one person being taken away by ambulance, I accept Princess can't control Chinese Immigration but they can control the comfort of their guests whilst waiting in the queue, there was 2 air-conditioned terminals in use, the first one was used to drop off your bags, you were then ushered outside into the heat to queue for 1.5 to 3 hours to get to the next terminal, they could have seated us in the first one and shuttled us over when space was available, reading other reviews about the Majestic from Shanghai it seems they encounter this issue often and have failed to resolve it. The ship itself was impressive to start but as the cruise went on you encountered the flaws, the Hollywood area was our favourite area, we found most of the bars to be too small only seating round 20 people and very hard to get a seat most of the cruise, The Theatre and Princess live rooms were cramped with tight seats and nowhere to put your drink, overall it did not live up to their marketing videos. FOOD Included restaurants: Very disappointing, at best I would say equal to a cheap RSL club meal and not as good as that at times, an example of one night Filet Mignon was on the menu, my wife ordered it and what came out was 4 tough rump cubes on a skewer, when we said that was wrong and repeated her order we were told, yes that's our version, when I said everywhere in the world it is a piece of eye filet steak wrapped in bacon, we were told he would let the chefs know what we said, the standard of food only increased in the last 2 days of the 22 day cruise, when we left Brisbane where a group of travel agents and I think some company executives boarded, that night in the dining room we had rack of lamb cooked to perfection and an amazing chocolate dome desert, the next day in the upstairs buffet, the spread of food was the best we had seen all cruise, to the point even the chefs were coming out with their phones and taking pictures of what they had put out on offer, I can only assume the travel agents were scheduled to have lunch there. The Pizzeria Italian place had basic pizza and 2 pasta dishes that remained the same for the whole 22 day cruise and were quite bland in flavour, certainly nothing rememberable, the Lobster and Dim Dum bar that was supposed to be an included eatery (according to their web site), turned out to be a free burger bar (with bad burgers) and lobster that you had to pay $24 to $29 for and not a Dim Sum to be seen, The Stir Fry place had 3 items on it per day, 2 of these never change the whole cruise, we eat there twice and found we had to put chilli on to get some flavour into the dishes. The Chefs table: The Majestic videos create a great expectation and as soon as we got onboard we rang and got put on a list and despite several calls had to wait 10 days to be told that we were going to receive an invite to the chefs table at a cost of $125 each, instead of the usual Hors D'Oeuvres & Champagne followed by a 7+ course degustation with different wines matching each course, we received 3 Hors D'Oeuvres with Champagne served in the Galley whilst standing at a trestle table, then taken to a very impressive table within the dining room, to be given what was essentially a 3 course meal with a sorbet between entrée and main with one white wine, one red wine and a desert wine, which made it the most expensive and least impressive chefs table out of the 9 we have done. Speciality dining restaurants: After the overall experience at the other eateries we decided to give the Crown Grill ago, again very disappointing and not worth the $35 each cover charge, the Filet Mignon was at least eye fillet but still no bacon wrapped around it, no sauces (eg pepper, mushroom etc) available just a gravy, limited vegetables and when I asked for carrots and beans/peas I was told they did not have any but could go down to the other restaurant to get them but it would take a very long time, in other words my meal would be cold or finished by the time he got back, after that meal we decided not to waste any more money on the speciality restaurants, we asked other passengers if they tried the French or Chinese ones and got mixed responses but neither of these were busy and the French one is in a bad position open to the Piazza which had bands playing so you had to raise you voice to hear each other during dinner. ENTERTAINMENT Again very disappointing, only 3 production shows for the whole 22 days, other cruises had 2 to 3 per week, the first one was excellent and set a standard that was never meet again, the second was like a free RSL Tuesday night show and only went for 2 thirds of the time, the third was a bit better, let’s say a Friday night RSL free show. The other guest entertainers were of a free RSL mid week level and the piano player in Crooners bar was given the nick name by a few passengers of "the Screecher" which speaks for itself and the guitar soloist had to have the "echo" of the vocal microphone turned up to cover the quality of his voice (the same way they do it at karaoke) except for the band "The Drop" which we felt were very good, the entertainment was a low standard. There is no night club and the bands play in the Piazza area, so it’s like dancing in a Westfield mall, later the DJ plays in Crooners bar which was the VIP casino when it was based in Asia, so it has a low ceiling, partitions blocking the view, no real dance floor and bad acoustics, the DJ was told on many occasions to turn the volume down by his superiors. CABIN We had an inside cabin and thought it was the best cabin of that type we have ever had, the beds were awesome and we always had a good night’s sleep (the pillows were soft which my wife loved but I was not so keen on), there was a large screen TV with movies on demand, which was great for a long cruise, everything was clean and kept that way by our cabin steward, when we arrived 2 draws had their runners broken but they fixed it within a couple of hours when we reported it. SHORE EXCURSIONS We only did 2 of these the first was in Busan where the guide took us a different route which turned out to be harder for the older people and some could not make it all the way to the Temple, on the way back I left the group and followed the original route which was more scenic and would have been less strenuous for the group as the steps were in small groups and low level, when we were asked which way we wanted to go there were only 2 responses, 1 for each way so the guide made the decision. The second tour was in Nha Trang, the guide could hardly speak English (not like the ship told us) and spoke at such a low level that if you were not in the front 2 rows (as the majority of us were) you could not here or understand anything, at each stop we were told "the attraction is up there be back in 20mins etc" and left to do our own self guided tour, at one stop he lost 6 people due to bad instructions and we had to wait for 30 mins while he went off to find them. In Hong Kong and Singapore we did our own thing and got the Hop on Hop off Bus and had a much better experience. SUMMARY We went on board with high expectations created by the Princess marketing and were very disappointed with what we received, we had intentions of purchasing a future cruise deposit for a 31 day Mediterranean cruise next year on the Emerald Princess but after what we experienced on this cruise we did not get one and if this is an example of the new offering from Princess, we are unsure if we will sail with them again, surely on their newest and biggest ship which has been sailing for over 12 months they should have had time to get it right. Nice ship designed for the Asian market but I don’t think it will suit the Western market without some major adjustments to the bar and entertainment areas as well as a major improvement to the food and quality of entertainment. We choose this cruise because it was a new ship and the Destination was Australia. The all over experince was good with most services up to expectation and some exceeding expectation. However there was an unacceptable amount of short coming in PR. Firstly the embarkation in Shanghai was a disaster. 12.30 was the embarkation time and that appeared to be for every one. There was no stagerred times. Therefore all embarkation passengers were herded into the lines extending into the carpark with no shade and it appears there was only one door open into the embarkation hall. With temperatures of over 30 degrees and humidity of around 90%. from my view the average age of people were over 60. The whole experience took us 3 hours to get on board, some we heard took up to 4 hours, About 45 minutes to an hour were in the sun. Thre were no announcementss, no consideration of occupational Health and safety, People lining up in the carpark with Busses, Cars etc dropping off passengers. There were no consideration for DISABLED passengers for embarkation, they had to line ip with everybody else. There was no consideration for heat distressed people in this area If there was a reason for this then nobody bothered to advise your customers , THE PASSENGERS. Read Less

Where do I start Firstly the embarkment in Shanghai was terrible. Waiting for up to 3-4 hours This Cruise was for the older clientele Average age was around the 75 plus It was like being in a nursing home. Lots of mobility scooters, walking frames, wheelchairs. Most of the time you could never get a lift So the easy option was to walk the stairs. Being on the 15 deck. It was hard to work up all the stairs as hubby had recently had a knee replacement. Deck 15 Oh boy how if Id have known I would never have booked this deck Staff moving furniture at midnight for an hour or so Then again at 5am. After 3 days we complained It did eas off a little but not completely. So no sleep in for us Food Was not the best it seemed what was in the restaurants on an evening got recycled In the food buffet the following day It was some time like eating a pub lunch in the buffet The symphony restaurant was great apart from one of the waiters dropping lemon butter down my formal gown Hence I never made a fuss about this. Entertainment What can I say You had to get to the shows 1hour early to get a seat With many still saving seats Even though they were told not to save. Some of the shows were pretty average. Deck 16 Movie under the stars Hardly anyone went to the 10pm movie. So why show the same one twice in one evening. Same trivia on the big screen was the same over and over. Elton John tribute was on 3 time So princess get your act together otherwise you will lose a lot of your up and coming cruisers Read Less

We chose Majestic Princess again as we had cruised on her maiden voyage a year ago. It's a wonderful ship and there are so many restaurants and bars to visit that you will never be bored. The production shows are some of the best we have seen and the visiting artists were all very good. One of the other reasons we chose this ship was that we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and wanted to do it in style. We opted to do a vow renewal ceremony and we couldn't have chosen a better ship to do it on. The ceremony was amazing; the attention to detail from the Princess staff was simply mind blowing! They brought in fresh roses for my bouquet plus roses and orchids for decoration in the Hollywood Conservatory from Hong Kong where we had docked 2 days before. We were greeted on arrival by all the officers in their dress uniform; our music of choice was playing and our friends were all seated comfortably. Captain Craig Stuart then performed the ceremony and my husband is still convinced that it was better than our wedding in 1968 so that's saying something! If you are thinking of getting married or having a vow renewal ceremony then there is no better place to do it than on a Princess cruise ship! Read Less
