I can highly recommend cruising with Princess Cruises. We have only done two cruises both with Princess. Sun Princess was our first and Majestic Princess for our second. We absolutely Loved the experience the first time and wow we truly loved this one too. Majestic Princess did not disappoint. It’s the WOW SHIP. Tge cruise staff go above and beyond to make each passenger feel welcome and at home. The service is outstanding. From your stateroom to the dining room it truly is wonderful. We , my husband and two daughters 15 and 18 all loved our cruise to New Zealand . We all made great friendships and have wonderful memories of the ship , crew and the activities/entertainment . We all can’t wait for our next cruise. If you haven’t cruised yet you must put it on your to do list. You will absolutely love it and wish you had cruised earlier. Simple: the big new ship and New Zealand at the correct time. If it had been another destination in Australia at the time frame we still would have made a voyage on the Majestic. A diversion took us to Picton which was fantastic. We missed the Fiordlands though. The entertainment at night was fantastic and the evening meals good. The buffet courts are confusing and you never know where to find what. A proper map of the setup should have been posted. There are no pools at the back which is very poor. In fact the pools are totally insufficient for this size ship considering that the only adult zone is totally enclosed. Loved my cruise but very disappointed with the mini suite and the pools. The cruise director was full of life and kept us posted of everything without being intrusive. The dancers were spectacular and I would have loved more shows with them. My cabin man was the best we've ever had on a cruise and the waitstaff in the dining room did everything they could to accommodate us. Read Less

Wow , so glad I was able to to experience best cruise on this beautiful ship , everything was great, best cruise ever, entertainment, restaurants, atmosphere , Excellent staff, big beautiful grand ship , so much to do and to see , can’t wait to do next cruise with Princess, loved every minute Planning on Alaska. Raise as I have been thinking of doing that cruise for a while now I have met some great people on this curenht trip and made lovely friendships, sitting in the international caffe in the Piaza , going every night to the great show in the Princess theaty, after a great dinner in the Conqerto restaurant being spoiled by magnificent waiters and greeted by all your wait staff Can’t fforvet great cruise director Andrew with his put in every night about next days program Well , now on to planning a next cruise and looking forward to great time again well done Princess cruises Read Less

Embarkation: Got on and found the water to be $6.50 for a 1.5 Lt rip-off And all beers to be $8.75 per stubbie Day 2: International bar Went for early morning coffee at 6am, which was very weak and bitter and order was made wrong by Milan. He did remake it for me but no better. For next 5 days the coffee was the same and my order was stuffed up each time buy the same barista and needed him to remake it each day. I noticed every one who ordered coffee their order was stuffed up as well on these days. I think retraining is needed their. So I did not waste any more money on coffee. Was also told at least twice about 4.30am that I would need to come back at 5.30am to get something to eat. So much for a 24 hour snack bar. Bars: It was observed that at all bars they were not putting a full nip in mixed drinks ( jack daniels & coke ) when question about it the staff were happy to call people a liar. So no more money spend on over priced low quantity drinks. Most bars told us that ice water is found in the market place area and that’s where you should go to get it. Lotus spa: On day 1 we bought the enclave pack $299.00 it was a great place but needed to stop going their for hygiene reasons and no protection from germs being spread by other passengers. Found a passenger using the hair drier to dry his private parts. Did not find any hand sanitiser on entry or near the self serve water. Constant hard sell by staff was annoying. They were sending out advertising material to the room and instructing it be placed on our bed in our staterooms which was done without knocking or knocking and just walking in which on 2 occasions we were in the room having a sleep or private time and we had some messenger boy walk in. This was unnecessary as their is a mailbox outside the front door no need to enter my room. As far as I no the room steward, maintenance and security are the only people allowed in my room with out my permission ( privacy laws ) We won some gift vouchers and made a booking for treatments but when staff found out about vouchers booking time were changed to a time when we would need to be at dinner which was unsuitable for us. Excursion: Found to be double or more than local operators prices, and had privately booked tours cancelled because princess forced them too by using stand over tactics. Some of these were booked up to 8 months in advance to secure our spots. The locals operators apologies but told us it was out of their control and princess cruiser were the ones who were forcing them to cancel us. Restaurant: Were very good and most staff excellent. Food servings a bit small and the food sometimes tough from over cooking or left in warmers to long, ice cream was always delivered half melted. No New Zealand wines on menu and all wines over priced. We also found the dress code was not enforced In the dinning rooms on formal nights with people allowed in in tee shirts and jeans or shorts. This was also the case at the platinum & Ellite captains circle party. The once high standards of princess has been lowered dramatically and at times I thought I was on a Sydney harbour ferry. Destinations: Dunedin and Fiords cruising canceled for safety reasons and Picton was put in to replace Dunedin but no replacement for a full day cruising the Fiords, this allowed the ship to cruise back to Sydney at 14 notts and that would have been a great saving to princess. At this stage we have not been offered any compensation. When I check the weather charts supplied by the captain the swell and wind was no higher than what we got on Wednesday in open ocean on our way back to Sydney. Which princess should have none about as the weather charts indicated that the bad weather that stopped us from going to the fiords was moving north and we would get it anyway. If we cruised close to shore we would miss most the high swells but this would not allow the casino or gift shops to open. This suggest to me that the ports were changed for lost income more than for safety. A large amount of passengers were also of the same opinion and wanted some compensation. We paid an extra $1000.00 per person to secure a balcony at the rear of the ship for the scenic cruising which we would not normally do, so we felt ripped off again. I pick this cruise at this time for the ship and the itinerary as it was advertised as going to fiords first but found out to late that it was going north island first to be able to change to a different departure date. Photos: Very little effort was put into have a nice background for onshore photos and found the quality of photography to be very poor. Even the formal and casual photos on the ship had little effort put in to make sure the photos taken were good, some photographers did not even check each shot after taking them to see if they were any good which resulted in poor quality and no photos were bought because of this. I wanted to buy a Nikon P900 camera but the price was $799.99 which I was told was duty & tax free but when I checked the price with my local camera shop near my home I found them to be priced at $698.00 including tax & duty. When I checked with Nikon in Japan I was told a price of under $600.00 Australian delivered to my residence in Australia. I ask them camera shop to price match and was told no. Another sale lost for your company. Casino: We went to play roulette and the sign at the table said $2.00 to $50.00 chips. But once we purchased chips we were told we must bet a minimum of $10.00 per each and every spin. So we cashed out and I have sent an email to the Australian gamberling authorities to investigate as this seems to be wrong to me and have never encounter this before on any of the 10 cruises I have done. Entertainment: This was found to be top quality but show times were not planned as good as other cruises we have been on with show times 8pm & 10pm. This ment if you were on late dinner you could only go to the late show and this made bed time after 11pm. On your other cruise ships show times lined up with dinner times so when first dinner sitting in the restaurant was on, the 1st show would be on & the same at the second dinner sitting ( 1st show at 6pm & 2nd show at 8pm) this allowed everyone a chance at getting a seat in the theatre and not have to go to bed late or miss the show, as some people would go to the early show and stay for the second show reducing the seating in the second show. Princess keeps improving its standards for passengers with special dietary needs. This has been my sixth cruise with Princess and it just gets better and better. The head waiters are ultra-attentive because they want to make sure you get the best out of your dining experience. The chefs go out of their way to make sure you get to experience food the way everyone else does. Escargot cooked in margarine because you can't eat butter? Not a problem! Can't have ice cream? How about rice milk semifreddo? Going on a shore excursion where there might be food? That's not a problem either. I was pleasantly surprised to find a form in my cabin where I could detail my dietary requirements. This was forwarded to the venue for the shore excursion I chose. When everyone else was eating cheese scones and sweet muffins at Hobbiton, I was eating two gluten-free, dairy-free cakes. Something as simple as this is very much appreciated. Add in an unbelievable entertainment experience - 5 tribute acts, 3 Broadway-style shows, aerialists, a juggler and a magician - Wow! And the activities organised by the cruise director's staff - absolutely amazing and such fun. Unfortunately the weather got the better of us and we missed out on Port Chalmers and Fiordlands but Picton was a delightful seaside town and the cruise staff stepped up the entertainment because of the extra sea day. We chose this cruise as we wanted to cruise on the newest Princess ship in Australia, the Majestic Princess, this particular cruise fitted in with our holiday time available, and it went to both Islands of New Zealand, which we had on our Wishlist after visiting the South Island on Emerald Princess two years’ ago. We flew in from Perth the evening prior to our cruise departing and stayed at the Adina Hotel Apartments close to the airport (fully recommend this place), and then caught the train into Circular Quay. Our first view of the beautiful Majestic Princess was breathtaking and the cruise itself didn’t disappoint! Embarkation was smooth as usual for Princess. We were allowed into the OPT by 10:30 am and onboard by 11 am. The welcoming staff invited us to put our hand luggage in our stateroom, even though the steward had not completed his duties there, so we were able to quickly do that before doing our traditional tour of the new ship. The ship being quite new was oustanding in its appearance! From the dazzling Piazza to the beautiful artwork and decor throughout the ship, the Majestic is very impressive. We did miss the opportunity to walk around a full Promenade deck, but there are lots of other areas to provide exercise, if desired. We were in an starboard aft balcony stateroom and enjoyed that very much. The room was always spick and span, and there was plenty of storage room for clothes etc, with an abundance of coat hangers, much to my wife’s delight! We thoroughly enjoyed the embarkation lunch in the Concerto dining room, thanks to CC tipsters. We were assigned to the Allegro dining room for tea at 5 pm, and used that on a few occasions, depending on the menu for the day. One negative point to note is that although booking a table for two, in Allegro the tables were so close together that it may as well have been a table for ten! Interestingly, this was not the case in the Concerto for the two lunches we ate there. So if you are looking for a quiet, intimate, romantic table for two, avoid the Allegro. The food itself in the MDR was of usual Princess standard, with a certain sameness appearing during the two-week voyage. The food in the Marketplace was excellent, we found, with good variety and contrary to many CC reports we had read earlier it was always hot, not warm. We also tried the Noodle Bar and Alfredo’s Pizzeria and were impressed with the standard of food at both of these complimentary food outlets. We didn’t eat at any of the specialty dining places, but can understand the criticism of the location of the La Mer restaurant. Being so close to the Piazza must surely detract from the atmosphere of a Michelin Star restaurant. We enjoyed one live show at the Princess Theatre, Fiero. It was quite full but we did find a seat, even though we arrived just before the show started. From observation, some shows did appear very popular and would have been difficult to get a seat for. Some were shown via video link to other parts of the ship. We did catch some of the live performers in the Piazza and similar places around the ship. Whilst entertaining, it wasn’t outstandingly so, we felt, but admittedly this is very much a personal preference thing. Nonetheless, it was very relaxing to enjoy a coffee and cake from the International Cafe (IC) whilst listening to some pleasant background music. We did enrol in the Enclave at the Lotus Spa ($299 per couple). Whilst we made some use of this, scheduling to use the spa and saunas was challenging with so much happening on the ship and on shore days. We probably didn’t get the full value out of this and wouldn’t likely be tempted in the future with this. The Internet service deserves a mention—it was painfully slow! Fortunately we only used our complimentary internet time to check emails, etc, so we were largely spared the frustration! The library was small but with quite a good selection of books, and there was ample board games to be borrowed and used. Again, it was very relaxing playing Yahtzee in the adults only Hollywood Conservatory, which is well equipped with an undercover swimming pool, spa pools, and cabanas. The service staff onboard were as usual excellent! Waitstaff in Allegro were friendly, helpful and amusing, and the behind-the-counter staff in the IC were outstanding. The front desk staff were helpful when my wife lost a piece of jewellery and it was recovered within 24 hours. Very impressive! Our steward, Maynard, was efficient and unobtrusive. The intinerary introduced us to a new port in NZ, Tauranga, and we absolutely loved the visit here. The magnificent beach with its adjacent alfresco cafes was stunning, and the climb up Mt Manganui presented a vista well worth the effort. The only downside was that due to the late arrival time in Tauranga (10 am), the walk up the mountain was done in the heat of the day, and being a hot day it was quite physically draining. A cruise that lands earlier in the morning would make this shore excursion far more enjoyable. The other shore highlights for us were the visit in Wellington to the Te Papa Museum, which was hosting the Terracotta Warriors display. This was an outstanding exhibit! Also, we again enjoyed visiting Akaroa. This beautiful French style town has so much to see. This trip we did the lighthouse tour (thanks Tom and Clive for such an informative commentary) and visited the Garden of Tyne bush walk which had some fascinating bird life. Next time we’ll remember our binoculars and NZ bird book! The museum in town and the town library are also well worth a visit. The only negative I could make about our shore visits would be the HOHO bus in Auckland. The price for this service ($45 pp) is a rip-off, and it is one of the worst organised services of it’s kind I have encountered. Half of the bus trip was spent waiting for passengers to fill whatever seats happened to be empty (no standing allowed apparently), having to do this as they negotiated the steps on the double-decker bus without tripping over prams etc which were stored in the aisles and exit of the bus! What a schemozzle! We used this service primarily to visit the Kelly Tarlton’s Sea World display ($30 pp) which was great value, especially the penguin area and Scott’s Hut display. Given our time again, we would catch the free shuttle out to Sea World and skip the HOHO bus. Whilst on shore excursions, I must mention that we did miss Dunedin and Fiordland due to poor weather conditions, which would have been disappointing for ones who had booked with these highlights in mind. We had seen them on our last trip, so we weren’t too disappointed, and appreciated the skill of the captain and crew in ensuring a pleasant and safe cruise. In summary, this was a memorable cruise on an oustanding ship! We have already booked other cruises with Princess, and wouldn’t hesitate to go on Majestic again. Read Less

This ship was amazing, great restaurants,buffet area and of course delicious food. The decor and furnishings all over the ship were well thought out and very stylish. Comfortable cabin and luxurious bed.The Ports we visited were good but we were disappointed that we couldn’t visit Fiordland National Park because of bad weather but better to be safe. Sea days had activities, pool games and movies and concerts on the big screen. The adults only area was one of the best I’ve seen. Pool, spa, bar, lounges, tables and chairs,board games and again great decor. The fitness centre had plenty of great exercise equipment, and a great amount of treadmills. Always very clean. The entertainment was the best that I have seen on a cruise. There was a Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Freddie Mercury tribute shows. The entertainment cast and band were also very talented. I travelled with my husband and there weren’t to many children on the cruise.We would definitely cruise on this amazing ship again and again. So if your thinking of doing a cruise check out Majestic Princess. Read Less

The Majestic may be the biggest fleet of Princess, but it is the worst cruise ship and cruise experience I've ever had (and this includes the time I went on a cruise to Alaska - also with Princess - and we hit the tail end of a typhoon and the waves were coming up to the 5th floor). Embarkation/disembarkation: The embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly, so that's a positive. We were one of the first onboard and our room was ready for us. Left relatively on time and it was smooth sailing. Disembarkation was also very quickly and we were able to conveniently take a bus to the airport straight from the ship terminal. The ship itself: The layout of this ship is so disjointed and I have no idea what the designers were thinking with some of their choices. For such a huge cruise ship that can carry more than 3000 passengers, why in the world was the Princess Theater so small? I think it could only hold 700-800 passengers, and it was the smallest theater I have ever seen on the 6-8 cruises I've taken with 3 different cruise lines. You had to show up at least half an hour before show time for the less popular entertainment shows, and even when we showed up an hour early for the last night's show (a relatively boring magician with card tricks and not much else... oh wait, he also incorporated coins), half the seats were already full. There was an altercation next to us between 2 husbands trying to save seats for their wives, and another couple of women who told them that's wrong (which it is) and not right. The seats are also very tiny and narrow, considering the average size of most cruise passengers. The "library" consisted of a couple of bookshelves in the very crowded and tiny internet cafe, where there was a line of people who didn't know how to connect to the internet. It wasn't the kind of space you'd want to sit with a book - not that there were more than 3-4 chairs available for sitting in. The VIP lounge seemed like an after-thought; it was on the 14th floor amongst other cabins and next to the meeting room. I've been in VIP lounges that actually had a view and were places you'd *want* to go to. The casino was huge, but we didn't spend any time in there, and from the looks of it, neither did most people. I felt bad for the staff standing at tables hoping someone would join. Food/buffet: The buffet layout is also disjointed and weird. There wasn't much variety with the food, but they do love offering a majority of Asian dishes, and lots and lots of meat. Wish there were more pasta and vegetarian options, and I'm not even a vegetarian. At least the watermelon slices were yummy, although I wish they offered watermelon slices for breakfast as well, but they were only available for dinner.... which if you came to eat after 8pm, half the buffet closed and the options were limited to mostly.... slices of meat and fried Asian food. Buffet service: TERRIBLE. It's not that the staff were rude or crappy themselves (although a couple seemed like you were inconveniencing them by asking for something), but you could tell the ship must have been understaffed because just getting some water poured in our glasses or getting a refill of orange juice in the morning took a long time. Some meals, I'd be more than halfway done before someone finally poured us some water, unless we flagged someone down (which feels kind of rude and pushy). The juice glasses in the morning were so small! I don't know about other people, but when I wake up in the morning, I'd like to have a normal sized glass of orange juice. Then maybe the staff wouldn't have to walk around refilling glasses as often. It would have been more efficient if I could just pour my own juice or water. Stateroom: We had a mini-suite which had a large couch (which is good because we ended up spending a lot of time in there since most of the activities were catered either towards older people, gamblers, art auction lovers, and kids), but our balcony was so narrow! We set the thermostat to the lowest it could go to (it's just a dial so you don't even know what the temperature actually is), and it was still too hot. Woke up every morning in a sweat because it was so stuffy, and was a sweaty mess after showering and blow drying my hair. Opening the balcony only provided relief if it was a cooler windy day, but even then, not much help since it was mostly humid and warm most days. Steward service: Our beds were made, or turned over for the evening, and the bathroom was tidied, but the shower or the bathroom floor still had hairs in it, and you could tell the desk was never touched the entire time because you could clearly see the water stains from glasses, and fingerprints on the surface, so that was strange. Our steward was very nice though. Stateroom bathroom: Ugh. At least we had a tub, but the ventilation in there was terrible. Also, from the very first day when we first walked into our stateroom, there was an overwhelming smell of urine in the bathroom. I mean it was strong - like gas station bathroom strong, like someone had missed the toilet and pissed everywhere else. You had to hold your breath in there. We mentioned it after a couple days when it didn't go away, and they replaced our shower curtain and said they gave the bathroom a good scrubbing. The smell was still there. My dad reported it again to them (and we are not usually ones to complain about most things, which is why this cruise just felt like such a disappointment) and said it was probably a plumbing or ventilation issue, and the supervisor (who claimed there was no urine smell that she could smell... okay, so more than one person is just imagining things then? Right.) said she would tell the plumber to look into it. I don't know what they did, but after that the smell did improve, although it was smellier some days than others. At least it was more tolerable. They also gave us a free dinner at Crown Grill (which is good that it was free, because the filet mignon wasn't that tender and the food was less than memorable). The passengers: Encountered some rude passengers. Encountered a lot of bad elevator etiquette. Just horrible. I felt bad for older passengers who couldn't walk to the elevators fast enough because people would push the close doors button without waiting for others to get on. That said, the elevator layout was a little weird, and also the elevators were tiny. They say each can fit 20 people, but maybe they mean 20 small children. Our travels to the last port (Dunedin) and Fiordland Nat'l Park were canceled due to weather. I was so disappointed. I know there's nothing that could be done, but there's not much you can do to alleviate the disappointment of having travelled more than 6,000 miles to a destination where you can't see the thing you wanted to see the most (Fiordlands). They promised to "make it up" with "even more entertainment!" but didn't really deliver with anything worth writing home about. Overall, if this was the first cruise I'd ever gone on, I'd never want to cruise again, so I hope first time cruisers on this trip had better experiences/lower expectations. The previous cruise I went on (2 weeks in Greece and Turkey with Royal Caribbean) was beyond amazing and excellent compared to this - great service, great stateroom, great entertainment, a theater that can actually fit more than a third of the passengers.... I've cruised on Princess before (to Alaska), but will never cruise on Princess again if I can help it. We only chose this cruise because of the destination ports/timing/cost/availability, but I'll just try to think fondly of the ports we experienced, and not the cruise itself. Read Less

I chose Majestic because being a new ship I wanted to know what it was like. I’d read a lot of negative reviews that there wasn’t a promenade deck, that there weren’t enough bars and that it was for the Asian market. I went into the cruise with an open mind though. The Sailaway Party was great but because most cabins have balconies there never many people on the decks so it felt a little bit empty and there wasn’t really a party vibe going on. That might have been the cruise’s demographic though. I went to a couple of activities on the second day and they were fun, the staff had a lot of enthusiasm for what they were doing and were always friendly. The trivia and karaoke nights were also a lot of fun, with myself and a few others as regulars. The staff always made us feel very welcome. Towards the end of the cruise I made friends with a few other people in my age group - 25-35 and it would’ve been nice if there had been activities for this age group like there was for the 18-20 year olds. It sort of felt like this age group was ignored in meet and greet activities and excluded from some of the trivia with the questions targeted at either older people or really young people. I missed having a proper promenade deck. I don’t get why a ship would be built without this. The facilities were fantastic. I loved the piazza and the on board gym which is the best I’ve seen on a ship. Crooners Bar was also good and there were so many places you could either have a quiet drink or party. The cruise entertainment staff - the assistant cruise directors were brilliant and very organised. It was always heaps of fun and they always joked around and were good humoured. If you like trivia, music, karaoke, live music in the bars and lounges then you’ll love Princess Cruises. Despite Majestic receiving negative reviews it’s a fantastic ship and there is something for everyone. Read Less

We wanted a new years cruise but had to be back by January 17th so this cruise fit perfectly. We also wanted to avoid the heat of the islands at this time of year. We embarked quickly, staff were always friendly and the food and entertainment (especially the on-board dancers and singers) were fabulous. Our cabin was always clean and well maintained as you would expect from a new ship. The ports of call were what we expected and disembarkation and tenders were smoothly run. We finished our cruise with a ship organised fishing trip and it was the highlight of the holiday. It was professionally run, the boats were not crowded, the skippers friendly and they went out of their way to make sure everyone caught something! I would totally recommend this experience. Princess made sure that the cruise was safe and the adult only pool area made sure we could escape too many children if we needed to. A wonderful experience all round. Read Less
