"Cruise from Bordeaux turned into many bus rides: to Sauternes (instead of cruise) and after dinner in the Medoc back to Bordeaux, instead of cruise next morning as advertised. That cruise we always recommend to friends, this one with reservations...."Read More
The Paris and Loire extension was excellent, well timed, with comfortable and good hotels.
Surprisingly, enough time to do a mini city tour of Paris by taxi (no traffic, Parisians are on vacation in August) and easy restaurant reservations.
Busy at the Chateaus we visited, but our guides whisked us right by them.
Traffic much less than expected, only near Bordeaux somewhat ...
My wife and I chose this as our first viking cruise because I am a lover of wine and this cruise did not disappoint. The excursions were amazing, Bordeaux was just beautiful, viking guides were amazing, if you get Alisandra , you are in for a treat, awesome storyteller, we were thrilled to have her as our guide 3 times!! The minute we got off the plane and were greeted by a viking representative ...
This cruise was a bit more relaxing because there weren’t as many excursions. It was very interesting and we had a great time. The crew was amazing. They worked very well together and helped where needed. Georgi and David were delightful and we sat at their table every evening! The demonstration by the chef and the maitre’d was interesting and funny. These two had a great time performing for us. ...
This was our 6th Viking river cruise and we have been running out of rivers. We read a lot about the Dordogne river region, we knew nothing about the Garonne river, and wanted to see the area and the city of Bordeaux. We can see now that compared to our past river cruises, this part of France was not as picturesque and interesting. It was really all about wine. While appreciating the opportunity ...
Lovely ship, cabin and communal spaces. Built some ten years ago but typical of Viking the maintenance and cleanliness is excellent. Very workable shower. With but few exceptions, the staff made it easy, relaxing and pleasurable. The cruise itself was almost a non event and even with the full itinerary, the distance travelled is minimal but nonetheless, the area and the chateau visits were ...
We wanted to visit the Aquitaine and decided this cruise would orient us which it did. We very much enjoyed the trips to Margaux and St. Emilion. We loved the dinner at the Chateau which the crew put on for us. It was extremely special and memorable. We chose this cruise because it featured the wine country and after the cruise we rented a house in Julliac for a week. I loved the trip to ...
I did not like this cruise for one reason, the shortness to each destination and the water was not at all calming. Brown water and the tide rolls which causes the ship to pull away from dock. I liked the ship I liked the service, Viking has impeccable service. I just did not feel the calm which I felt on a previous cruise (longer transit between points) and beautiful river water. I have taken ...
This cruise was taken with the intent of visiting wineries. If someone is interested in "cruising", then this is not their cruise. There was a little too much emphasis on the city of Bordeaux, a total of 2 1/2 days were spent there, partially because of low river flow and the ship could not travel to one of the destinations. The dining was great: lots of fabulous choices at breakfasts and ...
Overall the ship and cruise was wonderful, especially the dinner at the chateu that the crew set up. Places that we visited were very nice. The guides that took on the shore trips really know what they were talking about. If possible get into the smallest groups you can, we found that the smaller the group the more interaction there was with the guide and locals and this made the trip more ...
This was a group travel with two dozen friends. We had done two prior Viking River Cruises - the Rhine and Danube - which were more interesting than the Bordeaux Region but we enjoyed this one nonetheless. Our cruise director, Guillame, was the best we'd ever had and the food, with the exception of one really bad rib eye, was top notch. We didn't lack for adult beverages and the quality was very ...
