My husband and I embarked on what ended up being a 10 day Western Caribbean cruise on Oasis of the Seas. We sailed before Hurricane Irma was projected to be on our path, so we had no idea what was coming. The ports were all OK, I couldn't do much because I am 5 months pregnant so we just walked around and chilled on the beach a little bit. In Cozumel we took a 35 minute boat ride to Playa del Carmen which was well worth it, the beach there is beautiful.

Around the 3rd day of our cruise Hurricane Irma became a threat to the Caribbean and the Captain announced that although it was not going to affect our Western Caribbean itinerary, it was going to be in our path upon our return to Port Canaveral, so they were delaying our return to Tuesday (2 days). A lot of us had homes and families in Florida so we were worried, but Royal Caribbean always put our safety first and Captain Per was extremely informative, giving us updates as soon as he had them. A couple of days later they realized Port Canaveral would still be closed on Tuesday due to a direct hit by the hurricane, so they delayed the return another day. They made arrangements for us to spend an extra day in Cozumel and a day in Costa Maya (not in the original itinerary) so that we wouldn't have to sit at sea for 3 or 4 days waiting for the hurricane to pass through. All of this was at no cost to cruisers.

Food: We tried to diversity our dining experience and eat at different venues. The food in the main dining room was really sub par.... we did not enjoy it much except for the formal night that had lobster. Desserts were very tasteless as was the food. We tried the Windjammer as well which had more selections but the taste and quality of the food was also not very desirable. So we considered specialty dining, something we had never done before. They offered a 50% discount on specialty dining on the extra sailing days and that was a huge motivator of our decision as well. Sabor was excellent and the food portions are huge, we even came back another day during lunch just for the chips, salsa and guacamole. We had lunch at Giovanni's Table on the last day and it was also great. But the best dining experience we had on board was dinner at Chops Grille. It was really one of the top dining experiences we have had EVER as a couple. The food was absolutely delicious - my husband had the filet mignon and I had the spicy garlic shrimp. The desserts were to DIE FOR. And service was also top notch - we will always dine at Chops Grille wherever available.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Large Balcony

Cabin D1

Great cabin with oversized balcony. This was a balcony guarantee so they chose the location for us but we were very pleased. Convenient to most places, mid ship, and oversized balcony was definitely worth it. Had no issues with noise, they are very quiet.

Port Reviews

Falmouth

Walked around a little bit and had some Jamaican food. Be careful when going outside the gates into the city, very busy and you are constantly annoyed by locals trying to give you tours, sell things, etc.

Labadee

Nice beach area.

Cozumel

Took a $8 cab ride to downtown, lots of shops - specially jewelry. Took a 30 minute ferry to Playa del Carmen, well worth it. Beautiful beaches and great food at Senor Frogs.
