Our family has cruised for many years, almost exclusively on Royal Caribbean. This is the first time we were disappointed. Freedom of the Seas was dirty and tired. The cruise the week before had a gastrointestinal illness among the passengers, and we were kept waiting for several hours before being allowed to board, so they could clean the ship.I don't know what they did, but the ship was a hotbed of dirt and germs when we boarded, so I can see why illness broke out. Although the crew is constantly squirting the guests with hand sanitizer, the public restrooms were deplorable. The public toilets were routinely broken, dirty and unflushable for the entire week. In the men's rest room, the urinals were clogged and the ceiling was falling down. In our stateroom, we needed the toilet repaired 4x. The floors in the Windjammer restaurant were dirty. The crew's effort to sanitize the ship involved them smearing something on the windows and glass that left a cloudy haze, so everything looked nasty, The exterior signs and pool area needed paint and sprucing up. There seemed to be fewer crew members on board to address problems. Although the food, entertainment and ports were excellent, the overall experience on Freedom was lacking. When I expressed my concern to guest services, they still ignored the issues. Very disappointed in Freedom of the Seas.
