Sail Date: Jun 2018

We had previously cruised on Carnival Spirit in March 2013. We selected this cruise, and the previous one from Sydney, as a way of getting to SE Asia. We are in our late 60's and have previously cruised with Princess and P&O. The embarkation was staggered. We selected a 1130 - 1200 slot but on arrival there was about a 60 minute delay. We went straight to lunch and by the time we had finished, our cabin was ready. The safety brief was held on deck 3 under the lifeboats in the 30+ c Singapore tropical heat. We were on the eastern side and I was glad we were not on the Western side. The brief was the quickest have ever experienced.

The ship had just undergone a 2 week dry-dock. We had the same inside cabin on the way up and noticed that we had new carpets and shower curtains. In one of the drawers was the working clothes left by a Filipino contract worker who used the cabin during the dry-dock.

The inside cabin, 6159, was a bigger size that the inside ones we get on Sun or Sea Princess. The shower was also bigger. The location was quite with little noise disturbing us.

Port Reviews

Singapore

A busy crowded city. Plenty to see and do.

Phuket

The tour just touched on the area in the south western corner. Cultural show was very entertaining.Getting off the ship to the coaches should have been handled better. Suggest Carnival staff accompany passengers, as do other cruise lines we have used. This could elevate any problems, such as the ones we encountered.

Komodo Island

I had been to Komodo previously and this time it was much better. I did a private tour and we got to see over 6 dragons, including one walking near the tender pier, There were also deer moving around.

I also went to the Pink Beach. However this location has been damaged by people walking on the coral and the small boats used to bring you ashore from the larger dishing boats also hitting the coral. Underwater was littered with broken coral and plastic bags. I would not choose to go to the Pink Beach again, it needs time to recover from the extensive damage.

Darwin

Went into town and to the museum on the pier opposite our pier. Great time and not to hot with a nice cooling southerly breeze.

Gladstone

We hired a Avis car and it was delivered to the pier. We went to the Cathedral Cave just north of Rockhampton. On the way back we visited the Heritage Village in Rockhampton. Thoroughly enjoyed them both and the drive along the Bruce Highway.
