This was my first RC boat, and I was pretty disappointed. After cruising only on Carnival for years and having good experiences I expected even better from RC because I've always heard great things. I was really excited. Embarkation and disembarkation was really smooth and simple, the fastest I've ever seen. I really loved the interior and decor of the ship and as soon as I boarded I was impressed. The Solarium pool area was especially impressive, it's really nice! Unfortunately, I soon realized that everything only seems nice on the surface. The casino feels ancient, and there are only a few fun and recent machines. Half of the elevators were out of service, making the wait for an elevator ridiculous and possibly dangerous should an issue arise. At first the rooms seemed fine, and although our steward was lovely, we quickly realized the room was only clean on the surface. The faucet of our sink was filthy upon arrival, and there were hairs everywhere. Also, there are small marker marks ALL OVER the boat, as if being marked by professionals for something, not by a kid who got hold of a marker. It isn't a big deal but it just adds to the overall feeling of the boat not being truly clean and ready for vacationers. Also, it seems like rules were never enforced. Usually I don't mind this much but at some points it was annoying. One instance in particular was for the dinner theatre at Giovanni's. It is marked as an 18+ experience, yet there was a baby there. The parents set up an iPad to keep him entertained so thankfully he didn't cry, but we were sitting close to them and heard the singing of cartoons all dinner long. Some rules need to be bent but this was something that should not have been allowed. Everyone near the family was really distracted, and it was just an unnecessary thing for a baby to be at a dinner theatre when there is ample options for child-sitting on the boat. It seemed like a reasonable time for someone to enforce the rules but nobody did. Another big issue was the food. The fact that there are only three places to get food for no additional cost is crazy when compared to other ships. You have the MDR and the Windjammer Buffet, both of which are tasty but have almost the same food every single night and get old very fast. The only other option is the pizza/sandwich shop. At first I thought they would be specialty sandwiches or pizzas but no, it's exactly what they serve in the buffet, although it is really tasty. I thought it was just crazy that there are so few options for food. That being said, we did eat at Giovanni's one night and I was really impressed, the food was delicious. Another big issue is that it seemed like the staff randomly decided to close things down. The buffet was always being closed early, coming in twenty minutes before closing and half the food being put away. I would normally not mind this because I understand that they have such a limited time to get things set up but when there are so few options to begin with I didn't think this was fair. Also, the water attractions like the slides and Wave Rider would close and open at random times that didn't align with what the signs posted. It was very frustrating! I know these people work very very hard but I don't think it's much to ask for things to be open when the signs say they will be. Also, there is a major problem with RC themselves. We did the kayak excursion on CocoCay, and I'm telling you now, do not book this excursion. You go on a forty minute kayak ride to NOTHING. There is nothing to see and nowhere to go, it was so boring and kayaking for forty minutes on choppy water is not easy. We were very frustrated by the time it was over. There were two guides, the main girl who was from the RC and the follow up guy who just made sure everyone was the main guide who was from a nearby island. We mentioned how disappointed we were to him and it launched a discussion on how unfair it is that RC places someone who knows nothing about the island or culture in charge and expects the locals to do all the grunt work. The main girl was making up blatantly false stories to make things seem more interesting and overall you could tell she didn't care about the place she was showing off. It was just really terrible! We also noticed something similar in Nassau. RC books these excursions and then leaves the locals with little to no help once on the island. When leaving the ship and waiting for the excursion there were only two women trying to deal with about 300 angry, hot cruisers. I obviously don't know all the details of how this works but It is unfair how this cruise line handled excursions and they need to provide the locals with more support! Lastly, the DJ was absolutely horrible. Half the time he wouldn't even be at his laptop! I know there is probably a pre-approved list of what he can play but there is no excuse for how often he replayed songs that nobody wanted to hear. We tried to give the club a chance every single night and not once did I see people dancing and enjoying themselves to his music. The best form of entertainment was the ice show. It really was something special! The cruise was a lot of fun and I still really enjoyed my vacation, but this was definitely not a great first impression for RC.
