NCL Pride of America offered exactly the itinerary we wanted to see a variety of Hawaii islands, with overnights at two (Maui and Kauai). We had a delightful cruise. The staff was excellent and so helpful. Our experience was enhanced immeasurably by upgrading to a suite (after we had booked our cruise, NCL sent an annoying five emails with discounted upgrade prices). The suite included a special welcome, a private concierge, a special (excellent) dining room for breakfast and lunch for suite holders only.
Time on the islands was superb. We only did two ship excursions -- snorkeling on Hawaii at Kona and the Laua on Kauai. We were booked on the Rainbow Falls kayak excursion but cancelled when we learned the walk through the woods was slippery and difficult and full of mosquitos -- and the rainbow falls themselves were underwhelming. We rented cars on Maui and Hawaii (Hilo) and drove to sites ourselves, this was a blast.
The food was excellent in Cagneys, as was the superb service (Joao is a longtime veteran, ask for him). The food was very good at the buffet and the outdoor seating for the buffet is spectacular. The food at the main dining rooms was just okay -- they have few healthy options. Drinks were expensive ($17 for a shot of Belvidere in a mixed drink?) and service fee was added on, though that does not go directly to your server, it is pooled. So if you get great service you add on to that!
Loved loved loved our spacious suite! Can't say enough about it -- so worth the upgrade. HUGE balcony with a table that seated four plus two chaise lounges. Super comfortable bed, pillows and linens (and I am picky about this). Walk in closet! Butler (concierge) service 24/7. Fruits, champagne, chocolates all gratis.
