We were coming back from a 2 week stay in Nepal, and the timing of the cruise out of Singapore was perfect. In addition, my wife and I always wanted to do a Asian cruise. this was our 9th Royal Caribbean cruise, and 3rd cruise on Mariner of the Seas.
We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise, and the fact that it was a majority Chinese clientele made the cruise even more enjoyable, although the rudeness of some of the Chinese clientele (especially older Chinese ladies) sometimes tested our patience. Overall, however, I truly enjoyed talking to the Chinese that spoke English, and the fact that a majority of them have an adversion to sunbathing ,made this the absolutely best cruise ever for finding front row chairs at the pool, and a lack of people swimming in the pool
The food was fairly average, but not bad in the main dining hall, and the Windjammer was quite good food.
Cabin was clean and fairly roomy, they did some design change whereby there is space for baggage behind the curtains and right before the balcony, this made it very convenient as be had 4 large suitcases that were hidden from view.
Don't need an excursion for Singapore, just walk around and take Metro, Taxis, Water Taxi's
I would just take a taxi to the beaches south of Patong. For me, Patong felt like I was on a Mexico beach getting bugged by vendors the whole time. On our way back to the ship we took the southern route, and saw the pristine beaches that we wanted to relax at. Go to Karon or Kata beach or anything but Patong.
