(7:45 a.m. EDT) –- P&O Cruises is rolling out Strictly Come Dancing competitions across its fleet.
The move builds on P&O's popular Strictly Come Dancing-themed cruises, which include professional dancers from the hit BBC TV show onboard, as well as judge Craig Revel Horwood.
The new shows -- which will be on all cruises of three or more sea days -- will follow the same format as the show and will include clips of judges Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli. There will also be footage of celebrity performers from the show and the “voice” of Strictly, Alan Dedicoat.
The competition will be announced at the start of each cruise with a specially-recorded message from head judge Len Goodman. Each couple that enters chooses a dance style and devises their own routine to selected music based on famous routines from the show.
Rehearsals take place during the sailing, culminating in a live show on a stage set similar to the Strictly TV studio in the main theatre, complete with judges' desk and the famous mirrorball. Contestants are expected to provide their own costumes, but will be given exclusive back-stage access and offered hair and make-up sessions.
Performances will be scored by the judging panel, made up of the onboard entertainment team, senior officers, guest entertainers and fellow passengers. The couple gaining the most points will be crowned Strictly champions and presented with the mirrorball trophy, while their photo will be published on the front page of their own personalised copy of the ship newspaper Horizon.
Strictly Come Dancing starts tomorrow (Friday) night on BBC 1.
